Nowadays many people look out for offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh as most of the tourist places are mostly turning to concrete jungles. There is so much demand for these less-known places in Himachal that many of them are turning into tourist spots now.
When I suggest travel plans to my loved ones, including family and friends, I do ask them lots of questions. It helps me know what they are expecting from their offbeat vacation in Himachal. It helps me suggest a memorable trip of their lifetime. Some of these questions include –
“Are you tired of being visiting the same old commercialized, tourist flocked, complete hustle-bustle like Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala, etc.? Do you feel like going to some quiet, secluded, and peaceful place where you can spend quality time with your family, friends, and nature? Do you believe in off the beaten track travel and love to explore new places? “
Well, many times I get a positive reply to most of these questions. Every other person, who frequently travels nowadays, is looking out for some quiet, peaceful, less commercialized, and non-touristy place in Himachal to spend their valuable vacation time.
So, in case the answer to any of these questions is YES for you too, then this article is for you only.
Let's quickly dive into the details:

Himachal Pradesh offers a variety of hidden tourist places, but many of them take at least two days to reach Delhi/NCR. However, in this article, I am going to share with you my favorite offbeat places in Himachal.
These undiscovered places in Himachal Pradesh can be reached in a day from Delhi/NCR. You should be OK with traveling about 12-14 Hrs a day (the usual time for Manali / Dharamshala / Dalhousie).
In case you haven’t, then do not forget to check my list of Top 12 MUST VISIT Offbeat Places in Uttarakhand.
You can go through these peaceful places in Himachal below. I am sure you will add many of them to your next travel plans for a trip to Himachal Pradesh.

1. Tirthan Valley
If you have not been to Tirthan Valley yet, then I am sure that you have not experienced nature in its purest form. Surrounded by the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), this beautiful valley situated beside the Tirthan River is one of the hidden tourist places in Himachal.
Tirthan Valley is an awesome place to relax in the lap of mother nature. It tops my list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh any day if you have never been to it. I love this place most in the whole Himachal region for my family outings.
If you haven’t got a chance to visit it, then the best time to visit Tirthan Valley will be the coming Spring season and early summers. Though the Tirthan Valley is open all around the year, its beauty magnifies to the greater magnitude with blooming flowers in the valley in the Spring season and early summers. Also, the water in the Tirthan river is soothing to sit beside and get lost in peaceful nature.
There is a nearby waterfall in Gushaini, Tirthan Valley and you have a Great Himalayan National Park that offers one of the best hikes around the world. You can go for day hikes in GHNP or stroll in the village or woods around it. Perfect place to spend some quality time with your family.
2. Pabbar Valley
Pabbar is one of the most enchanting places in Himachal Pradesh, isolated from the tourist rush as of now. It offers some awesome panoramic views, especially from the Chansal pass, along with numerous nature walks/hikes in the dense orchards and forests all along the valley.
So, there is no surprise it makes in my list of less-known places in Himachal.
You can also experience a wide range of activities like camping, trekking, fishing, and other adventure activities that are also gaining attention including rafting and paragliding.
You may have heard about the names of these undiscovered places in Himachal like Rohru, Shelapani, Karapather, or Chansal Pass. All these lesser-known villages come under the Pabbar Valley region.
So, in all honesty before this “becoming popular” destination gets polluted by the maddening tourist rush, high-end commercialization, and goes away from the list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh, you should travel to Pabbar Valley soon in your upcoming trip to Himachal Pradesh. I am sure you will love every bit of it.
You can read about the route details and directions in my article on my trip to Chansal Pass – Rohru – Chakrata.
3. Chindi – Karsog Valley
Chindi is yet another offbeat place in Himachal Pradesh that offers an inspiring set of beauty, peace, and calmness. Once, you reach Chindi or Karsog Valley, you have all the time in the world to rejuvenate, relax and spend some quality quiet moments with your loved ones.
You have ample hikes around in the dense orchards and can explore several temples around Chindi. You can visit Karsog Valley situated just below Chindi, which also offers some lush green wide views of the mountainscapes in Spring and Summers.
If lately, you had some “not so good” time with your better half, or you had a great time with him/her but still want to make it better by listening to each other, or you want to introspect a few things about yourself then Chindi is an ideal place for you.
If required you can discuss with me an itinerary for Shimla, Chindi, Karsog, and Kullu Valley and visit these offbeat places in Himachal near Delhi.
4. Daranghati – Daran Village
Daranghati near Sarahan is one of the remotest and unexplored places in Himachal Pradesh situated just above Daran village. It is famous for Daranghati Wildlife Sanctuary, but you cannot take anything from the jaw-dropping beauty it offers you.
Since Daranghati is near to Sarahan (which itself offers nice beauty and peace) and lacks too many accommodation options (just two as of now), it can always be covered as a day trip from Sarahan. However, one-day camping at Daranghati is highly recommended to feel nature in its best form.
The general route to Daranghati goes through Mashnoo (alternate routes are also there) and for cars it is almost an off-road type of experience. If you plan to visit in hatchback or sedan, then I guess you need to have some excellent driving skills. You should be cautious to drive on this adventurous plus narrow road.
If you are especially a rider or driver who loves to enjoy some adventurous roads to reach a secluded place in Himachal for ultimate relaxation, then you should plan a trip to Daranghati very soon. You will not be disappointed at all.
Even if you drop Daranghati then Sarahan, entrance to Kinnaur Valley, itself offering some picturesque beauty and peace, is worth a place to visit in Himachal Pradesh. But, going to Sarahan will give you peace, nothing much exotic. (For just Sarahan, read more in comments by doodlings though via email)
5. Barot – Luhardi Villages
Barot was used to be on my travel bucket list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh for a long time. However, finally, in 2013, I got a chance to travel to this secluded place in Himachal besides the Uhl river.
Barot is another off-the-beaten-track destination in Himachal that is yet to gain the attention of the general tourists. It has some wonderful terraced fields, thick cedar forests, and a range of outdoor activities on offer for the tourist.
The Uhl river flowing next to the Barot village mostly on both sides adds every bit of its unique beauty. So, if you love serenity, nature walks, or you are a backpacker or one who loves to do some angling, then do not hesitate by any means to visit Barot village in your upcoming travel plan for Himachal.
You can read my comprehensive travel guide of Barot to know everything about this offbeat place in Himachal Pradesh near Delhi.
6. Prashar Lake
Prashar Lake, which is located about 49 odd km north of Mandi at an altitude of 2730 Mtrs, is one of the popular offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh. The lake has a depth unknown to anyone so far. People who know about this place can’t stop going there again and again due to the extreme solitude and peace it offers to you.
However, I only like Prashar Lake in two states, one, when it gets surrounded by green colors topped with a varied variety of flowers in the monsoon months of July – August. And, the other state is when the white carpet of snow surrounds this surreal lake and gives it a feeling like a jewel-studded & shining midst white gold around it, in January – March.
You can take Delhi to Manali overnight Volvo and reach Mandi. Buses are running from Mandi to Prashar lake / Baggi village, the base of Prashar. Spend a day at Prashar either in FRH or PWD Guest House or camping near the lake. Finally, on Day 3, you can return home. So, a trip to Prashar can easily be made over an extended weekend.
As I said, it looks beautifully green in monsoon time, Prashar lake is also one of the top offbeat places in Himachal to visit in August. Of course, with rains, there is always a risk.
You can read my snow trek to Prashar which I did in January and it was pure bliss.
7. Bir – Billing
I have already mentioned Barot above in this article but let’s deviate a bit now. Just about 70 odd KMs from Barot, there lies India’s favorite destination for Paragliding by the name of Bir Billing.
While Bir is more of a conventional Buddhist/Tibetan town having quite nice monasteries and a stupa, 14 km north of Bir lies Billing, which is the hotspot of paragliding in India. These two places also come pretty high in the list of my favorite offbeat places in Himachal near Delhi.
You can club the trip to Bir Biling along with the Barot village trip or Prashar Lake trip. Otherwise, you can also make a dedicated trip to this secluded place in Himachal.
The stay options are available at Chowgan village. The best time to visit Bir – Billing is from April – May or September to mid of November. You may not be aware, but Bir – Billing indeed hosted the Paragliding World Cup by the Paragliding World Cup Association, France in 2015 🙂 🙂 …
So, being popular only amongst a niche of travelers, Bir Biling in Himachal makes the ideal offbeat destination in Himachal for all peace and paragliding lovers.
8. Kasol – Malana – Tosh – Kheerganga
Now, let’s talk about a couple of beautiful unknown places of Himachal Pradesh, Kasol – Malana – Tosh – Kheerganga.
Kasol, 75 km away from Manali and about 34 km from Bhunter, lies in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is nestled between Pin Parvati ranges on one side and the mighty Beas river on the other.
Parvati river, a tributary to Beas, also passes through Kasol town. For years we have heard that Kasol is a mini Israel for its cannabis production and foreigner settlement.
But that is not what Kasol is all about.
A calm little Himalayan town, Kasol gets its unique selling point from towering hills covering this town, the wild yet forgiving Parvati river, and an abundance of multi-cuisine restaurants. On an average day in Kasol, you will find numerous German bakeries and cafes serving multi cuisines, shops selling innovative caps, jewelry and T-shirts, Firangs and hippies strolling about around the streets, and much much more.
Apart from Kasol, there are numerous hikes or treks or walks one can undertake from Kasol to reach various tranquil places around Parvati Valley.
Tosh – Kalga – Pulga – Kheerganga
You can go up to Tosh village, where a bumpy yet motorable road goes. Tosh offers some majestic views in Parvati Valley. Then there is a 3-4 Hrs trek to Kheerganga running through quaint villages of Kalga – Pulga having a hot spring up there. It is one of the most favorite spots for most people traveling to Kasol.
Malana
Finally, there is a tabooed village of Malana which is quite an unusual yet very picturesque hamlet having its one unique culture, laws/rules which amuses many people to visit this place. All these places are nearby Kasol only and you can club a 3-4 day trip to visit these places or make these villages as a base to explore the rest of them around.
Once, these used to be the most undiscovered places in Himachal, but as of 2022 Insta age and budding travelers searching for trance things have killed it a bit. However, still, you can visit these quaint towns Himachal for peace, not just a different trance and hippie culture.
9. Naggar Castle – Jagatsukh
Naggar Village, about 22 KMs away from Manali, is a quiet little village to enjoy the peace and calmness of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh I have always believed that staying at Naggar Palace, a premium heritage hotel, run by HPTDC is one of the most romantic offbeat experiences of Himachal.
Naggar castle offers some amazingly beautiful views from its front row rooms and balcony-based restaurant.
The best will be that you book rooms in the first row offering a valley view. On a relaxing day, you can hike to Old Krishna Temple, visit Shiv Temple or Roerich Art Gallery and Museum at Naggar.
As soon as you reach the bus stand (I feel it was a bust stand :)) of Naggar lifts your eyes upwards and you can get a glimpse of a castle-like structure made of wood and rocks at a cliff point. It’s approx. 800 Mtrs from the bus stand.
Jagatsukh
On the way to Naggar from Manali, there comes another quiet, calm and small village by the name Jagatsukh. There is a well-known temple there as “Gayatri Temple” which is known to be one of the oldest temples of all time with relevance to “Mahabharata“.
Nowadays Jagatsukh is also gaining popularity in terms of staying away from the hustle-bustle of the Manali town at a peaceful location. So, surely needs a special mention in this list of offbeat places in Himachal.
10. Jibhi – Shringipur – Shoja – Jalori Pass
We have already talked much about Tirthan Valley in this list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh.
However, if you move from Tirthan Valley or Gushaini towards Banjar and take the road to Jalori Pass, you will come across some more peaceful yet not so known hidden tourist places in Himachal. These are popular by the names Jibhi, Ghiyaji / Shringipur / Shringi Vatika, Shoja, and Jalori Pass.
To beat the crowd and have a quiet time with your loved ones, staying at any of these villages will not disappoint you a bit. All these places now have small guest houses or homestays run by mostly local families. You can witness the flowing waters of a tributary to the Tirthan river, especially at Shringi Vatika, and enjoy local cuisines while living in complete calmness.
Shringi Vatika is a homestay/guest house run by an old couple which now they call it Shringipur. HPTDC has put up camps right at Jalori Pass in complete solitude. Apart from majestic valley views, you will not spot anything, and that makes it a perfect place to live away from civilization yet very close to it 🙂 🙂
11. Rajgarh – Nohradhar – Haripurdhar
Located in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Rajgarh – Nohradhar – Haripurdhar villages are one of the most less known offbeat places in Himachal where you can enjoy complete peace and calmness away from any hustle-bustle.
Only a handful of people know about it, and one can enjoy the drive of about 9-10 hrs from Delhi. Rajgarh lies ahead of Solan, and you can witness pure serenity around the place once you reach.
These places lie on one of the well-known treks by the name Churdhar Trek. In the winter months, these hidden villages become one of those not-so-popular places to find snowfall near Delhi in Himachal.
You can read the entire travel tale in the DwD Community about a family trip to Rajgarh (Sirmour)
12. Chamba – Bharmour – Hadsar – Bairagarh
Many tourists visit Dalhousie – Khajjiar every year and some of them make a day trip to Chamba as well. However, the entire region ahead of Dalhousie – Banikhet is very untouched and quite less explored apart from the days of Manimahesh Yatra.
There are plenty of options of peaceful places in the entire Bharmour Valley ranging from Chamba to Bairagarh, the base of Sach Pass, or an entrance to Pangi Valley. The places around Bharmour only remain rushed during the days of Manimahesh yatra but the rest of the season mostly has fewer tourist footfalls.
However, you can always visit these places to enjoy a quiet holiday with your loved ones. You will not get much outside disturbance. Also, you can make a day trip to tourist places of Dalhousie – Khajjiar from these places to have a balance of touristy plus offbeat experience.
No doubt, these places needed a special mention in this list of offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh near Delhi.
Other Offbeat places in Himachal & FAQ
Well, indeed Kinnaur Valley including Sangla, Chitkul, and Kalpa is one of the offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh. However, in order to visit these places you need at least 5 days to make some sense of the trip. I have detailed about it in my most recommended itinerary of Kinnaur Valley, in case you have that many days in hand.
Well, there are other offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh too. If you have not been to places like Bharmour, Spiti Valley, Lahaul Valley or Pangi Valley, they all come under the offbeat tribal belt of Himachal. However, you need more than a weekend to visit these beautiful unknown destinations in Himachal.
Conclusion
You can reach all these offbeat places in Himachal from Delhi/NCR in a day. Hence, you can enjoy a complete offbeat vacation of 3 to 4 days at any of these places near Delhi. I need your assistance on such a case. Am from Bangalore & plan a budget trip to Simla & the surrounding areas.
Below are my fixed travel plans
16th Nov : Arriving Delhi on evening flight
16th Nov : Catching night train from Delhi to Kalka
17th Nov : Catch Rail Motor or Kalka Simla Express from Kalka to Simla ( not booked )
23rd Nov : Catch Rail Motor from Simla to Kalka. ( not booked )
23rd Nov : Catch Kalka Mail to Delhi ( not booked )
24th Nov : Depart Delhi on afternoon flight
Do you think from Kalka to Simla, the Rail Motor or Kalka Simla Express are the best options in the morning time ? Do you recommend any another option or route ?
Could you please create an itinerary from 18th morning to 22nd night. My days are open, with no fixed plans, hence flexible to accommodate.
Upon your response, will make the necessary booking, where not made.
Thanks for your assistance in advance & looking forward to hearing from you.
regds,
Rakesh
Hello Rakesh,
When you are visiting that place better try to toy train journey, you will enjoy it. Better go ahead of Shimla and stay at Narkanda or Matiana to make that as base. You have 5 days around Shimla and I will suggest to follow something like below:
18th: Around Shimla, a relaxing day. Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge etc. as you like in the first half and then in next half leave for Matiana/Narkanda via Kufri.
19th: Matiana/Narkanda – Hatu Peak – Tanijubbar Lake – Matiana/Narkanda
20th: Matiana/Narkanda – Jalori Pass – Shoja OR Matiana/Narkanda – Karsog – Chindi
21st: Shoja – Matiana/Narkanda OR Chindi – Matiana/Narkanda
22nd: Matiana/Narkanda – Chail
23rd: Move by road to Chail towards Kalka

Hi..
Interesting blog!
We are two girls travelling from Bangalore. We will most probably reach Delhi on 13th Dec 2013. We intend to reach Shimla on 14th Dec. We have time till 16th night. We want to see some quiet scenic places nearby, not commercial or very far from Shimla. Could you please suggest some places?
Thanks.
An alternate plan is to reach Pathankot by train on 14th morning. We will have time till 16th. We understand from your previous replies that Dalhousie,Chamera Lake, Gete,Jot, Khajjiar, Mcleod Ganj
etc are good places. However, since we have less time, we want to cover just a few very scenic places.. Can you please suggest the best places that can be covered leisurely in 2 days?
Just replied here
Maria, if you have couple of days, will surely recommened that you spend some time at Matiana, about 45 KMs from Shimla and 15 KMs before Narkanda. Awesome place to be at. Check the review at:Matiana, near Narkanda

hi Dheeraj,
its an wonderful job u been doing..
i really wish to know that is nov an ideal month for visiting HP and if yes pls suggest some off beat destination some indeed beautiful places also some wildlife .
Heema, thanks alot. In November, cold is bearable but scenery becomes dry and brow plus lack of snow also makes it tasteless I will say. If you just want to enjoy couple of days midst hills then probably you can checkout Karsog + Chindi or any of the options mentioned in the article. Depends how many day you have in hand.

Hi Dheeraj,
I really liked your blog and I need some help to plan my itinerary.
I am planning for nearly 12 day trip during Sept end to himachal pradesh with my friend (his name is dheeraj too).
Can you suggest me a itinerary.
We are planning for a budget backpacking trip and would like to explore unknown place.
Also, can you also let me know about the transport options available there. Is it possible to rent a bike and roam around also (are the roads dangerous for non-frequent bikers?).
What places are you interested into?
Hey Dheeraj
Amazing work by you, cheers to you!!
For me, i have already been to tirthan valley(raju’s GH was amazing), manali/shimla/dalhousie/dharmshala/amritsar/chandigarh.
I am planning a trip in late nov this year and would like to go to unexplored places which you have mentioned above with home stay or hotel stay.
Can you suggest any itineary for 8-10 days for 2 people,me and my husband.
Thanks
Preeti
Preeti, if you have about 8-10 days and are OK with cold conditions, how about planning a trip to Kinnaur Valley with ease? I guess by November roads will be much better though it will be cold but manageable.
Hi Dheeraj,
Kinnaur sounds good, can you please suggest the Itinerary.
thanks
preeti
Preeti you can check a common itinerary for Kinnaur Valley at the link: Kinnaur Valley Sample Itinerary | Kalpa – Sangla – Sarahan
Hi.. Thanks for helping everyone…i really appreciate your efforts…I am planning to visit Himachal pradesh during first week of Oct, i would come there for 6 days with my family…we are also interested in adventure such as paragliding /river rafting etc..dont know whether these things are open in Oct and if yes, where? ..Can you suggest us how to plan this trip..my starting point would be Shimla..
Hi Naresh,
You can follow the below itinerary and paragliding shall be available at Solang Valley.
Day 1 | Reach Shimla from by overnight Volvo from previous night. Check-in and rest at hotel. In the second half explore local Shimla including Shimla Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Shimla – Narkanda – Hatu Peak – Narkanda – Shimla or you can do Shimla – Kufri – Chail – Shimla (Little les hectic :))
Day 3 | Shimla – Manali
Day 4 | Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 5 | Manali – Snow Point either at Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass or Rphtang Pass if safe to reach there. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali and on the way do paragliding at Solang Valley, if required.
Day 6 | Manali – Delhi.
** if you have time then try, Manali Sanctuary can also be covered as it is just about 2-3 KMs from Manali town and there is trail which starts from Manali Log Huts or Dhungri temple that leads you into the woods.

Dheeraj Sharma
Hi Dheeraj,
We will be reaching chandigarh on 31st august and will be there till 8th sept. Please suggest me which places we can visit in this time period. We are 5 youngsters and would not mind any adventurous trip also.
Hello Emmanuel,
Considering you have about 7 days I would have suggested to visit Kinnaur Valley for sure but you need to keep an eye on the road conditions as they were not really conducive to travel this season at all. If that is not the case, then better make a round trip to Tirthan Valley and Manali.
Day 1 | Reach Narkanda from Chandigarh. Check-in and rest at hotel.
Day 2 | Narkanda – Jalori Pass – Shoja – Tirthan Valley
– I will suggest that you take Jalori Pass route to Manali. The drive is extremely adventurous and beautiful + too scenic as compared to other routes to Manali from Shimla.
Day 3 | Tirthan Valley, relax around.
Day 4 | Tirthan Valley — Enjoy the walks in the GHNP. There are two Waterfalls in the woods.
Day 5 | From Tirthan Valley start for Manali by noon. Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 6 | Manali – Solang Valley – Rohtang Pass and back to Manali. Checkout if Paragliding is happening at Solang Valley, if yes then go ahead and experience it
Day 7 | Manali – Chandigarh.
** if you have time then try, Manali Sanctuary can also be covered as it is just about 2-3 KMs from Manali town and there is trail which starts from Manali Log Huts or Dhungri temple that leads you into the woods.

hi Dheeraj,
I really liked this website. I have planned to travel himachal in september end or october for 6 days, but don’t know which place to visit. Can u suggest me some easily reachable place?
Arun, if you like there are couple of itineraries suggested just now at the links here and here. Please check them if they are useful for you by some means.
hi dheeraj,
thanks for ur reply. can you please plan an itinerary for us- 6/7 days for khajjar-dalhousie-dharamsala.
Amit, here you go:
Day 1: Reach Pathankot and get to Dalhuosie via Chakki – Dhar – Tunnahati – Banikhet – Dalhousie
Day 2: Dalhousie – Chamera Lake – Chamba
Day 3: Chamba – Gete – Jot – Gete – Khajjiar, may evening at Kalatop
Day 4: Khajjiyar – Dalhousie – Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj
Day 5: Mcleod Ganj
Day 6: Mcleod Ganj – Delhi or Pathankot and back
hi Dheeraj,
would october be a good time to visit dalhousie and dharamsala and some nearby places?
me and my friends r planning for a 6/7 days tour and don’t know much about these places, can you suggest an itinerary for us? are there any adventure activities?
Amit, yes, October will be good time but grass will be on brownish side tough. Not too much green. Are you interested in both Dalhousie and Khajjiar? What is your starting point and mode of transport?
we have heard about dalhousie and khajjar. But we r confused whether we should go to dalhousie or manali. please suggest which side is better. We’ll reach Delhi or Pathankot by train and hire a four-wheeler after that.
By accessibility means, Khajjiar will be much much better. Just get down at Pathankot and then hire taxi, Dalhousie will be much more accessible from it.
Hi Dheeraj, could you help me out on drafting my itenerary for the trip to Dalhousie and Dharamsala (thinking of 3 days in Dalhousie and 2 days in Dharamsala)? Could you also kindly refer some nice hotels to stay in at Dalhousie and Dharamsala? I was thinking about Hotel Nishaad resorts to stay in Dharamsala..
Sandeep, why not stay at Khajjiar which is much better in terms of views as well as location!! Regarding 5 Day itinerary, you can do something like below:
Day 1 | Delhi – Dalhousie
Day 2 | Dalhousie – Chamera Lake – Chamba – Gete – Jot – Gete – Khajjiar
Day 3 | Khajjiyar – Kalatop – Khajjiar
Day 4 | Khajjiyar – McLeod Ganj
Day 5 | Mcleod Ganj
hello dheeraj,
we a family of 5 is planning to go ona family trip from 5th august. can u please help me to make an itinerary.Iam unable to decide where to go towards kashmir shrinagar gulmarg or to himachal side(at kullu, chamba, rohtang and ol) because of the monsoon season.i want to include rafting, paragliding, etc also if possible. Please help me to decide. Thanks.
Hi Arun,
You may choose either of the two. Both won’t be as crowded as Summers and if you can dare and enjoy the rains, both itineraries won’t disappoint you one bit! As far as rafting and paragliding go, both would be closed for this month. And even if someone is doing, we’ll advice not doing it as it would be dangerous. If you can extend your vacations, we’d recommend going to Spiti Valley or Ladakh at this time of the year.
Hope it helps.
Visharad
P.S.Dheeraj, very well written article. Would advice you to travel Barot asap. Its amazing, one of my personal favorites 🙂
Thanks alot Visharad, I am too badly interested to be there but somehow too bogged with something or the other. It is on topmost priority for a long weekend trip, soon. 🙂
Arun, please let me know which places interests you and how many days you have in hand. Also, how are you planning this journey?
Hi Dheeraj
I love ur blog, n hav saved this post as a fav so i can revisit whenever i catch d travel bug. Looks like i m infected now…n m planning a trip of 3 families incl 7 adults and 2 children youngest being 4 yrs old in november. Places we hav in mind r manali, teerthan….Have a few questions, hope u can help…
1) Is nov a good time in terms of will it be very cold coz my daughter is 4.5 yrs n we r from mumbai.
2) Will we be able to go to rohtang pass at d time?
3) will we be able to go on a short camping/trek to the great himalayan national park in nov? is it advisable?
4) Which other place/s can we include from your list to r trip of 9 days?
5)Can u suggest ur choice of itinerary for 9 to 10 days ex chandigarh? i.e. if u dont think too highly of manali, tell us so..
Hi Kavita,
Thanks alot, please feel free to be a part of our DoW – Himalayan Travel Community and share your Himalayan knowledge and experiences with other like minded travellers too and help us materialize the vision to help a Himalayan life & help travelers travel with a difference in various parts of Himalayas
Coming back to the queries:
1. Yes, shall be fine. Just carry enough woolens as nights will be cold.
2. Roads to Rohtang Pass might be open but unofficially. So not recommended as it will be officially closed. So, you should not take risk and respect the mountains 🙂
3. Yes, you can do the day hikes in GHNP. Even you can do the trek.hike to Serloskar Lake near Jalori Pass.
4. Include Tirthan, Jalori, Naggar, Manali
5. You can follow something like below:
Day 1 – Leave from Delhi by overnight Volvo for Manali. Get down at Aut/Bhunter near Kullu next morning (Day 2) where you can get to reach Tirthan Valley (about 40-45 KMs from there)
Day 2 – Tirthan Valley – Relaxing day besides Tirthan River
— Stay at Raju Bharti Guest House (you will need booking well in advance, so finalize it ASAP) other you need to stay at some other property. Raju is a pioneer in that region, so will say do not miss the stay there as it is quite an experience in itself.
Day 3 – Tirthan Valley
— Enjoy the walks in the GHNP. There are two Waterfalls nearby Raju GH in the woods.
Day 4 – Tirthan Valley – Shoja – Jalori Pass – Serolskar Lake – Tirthan Valley
Day 5 – Tirthan Valley – Kasol – Manikaran – Naggar Castle (stay at Naggar and enjoy the place) (about 100 KMs)
— Stay at Naggar Castle and enjoy the place. Very romantic with great views and food. Visit Roerich Musueum, Art Gallery and do not miss the hike to ancient Krishna Temple at the top
— It is one of the most romantic places in Himachal
Day 6 – Naggar Castle – Manali (about 30 KMs)
Day 7 – Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 8 – Manali – Snow Point either at Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali
Day 9 – Manali – Delhi
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Thanks for the prompt reply dheeraj. I called Raju GH and they r closed for the period i m there coz they hav some family wedding happ there. While i was chatting to the gentleman from Raju GH he said that the scenery would be very dry and barren in first two weeks of november. Is that so? what do u think? I dont mind d autumn beauty but not a barren kind 🙂
Also, can we add barot to d itinerary?
Kavita, yes the landscape will be a bit barren and that is what it remains at that time of the year in mountains 🙂 … It is only snow that enhances the beauty of hills in winters 🙂 … Barot will mean more travel, more hectic
Hello,
Nice article. Exactly the kind of places i was looking for. I have been planning to visit Dalhousie and Dharamsala in the first week of September for a week’s time. What would you suggest? Would you rather Me and my wife travel to these spots you have mentioned? Are there good places to stay for a week?
Sandeeep, if you have not been to Dalhousie and Dharamshala, then better go ahead with the plan and come to these places once you complete the famous destinations… In September, since it will not be holidays, I feel these two places will be good to. Do visit a hike to Triund from McLeod Ganj
Hi Sudheer,
We are a group of colleagues working in a MNC and exploring unexplored tourist destinations in HP for 3-4 days. We would prefer to go by our own cab. Would be highly grateful if you can suggest some really good safe options (Its monsoon time on its extreme)along with the route.
Akshay, it is monsoon, so you will have to face hassles of monsoons at most places. I will say you can go towards Kangar, may be Bir Billing for some paragliding included with hike to Triund from Mcleod Ganj.
Hi Dheeraj,
was looking exactly for something like this…..
We are a couple and planning a trip from 9th-11th aug. Could you please suggest the best, considering it is going to be monsoon, and we are travelling in a hatchback….???
Pratibha, for just 3 days in hand, better go with Chindi-Karsog Circuit.
Hi Dheeraj,
thanks….Chindi is safe to travel to in monsoon right?
also, any recommendation on where to stay…what to do etc there?
how about Bir Billing or Kandaghat?
Chindi is OK to travel in monsoon but saying it safe, I am not sure!! Anything in hills cannot be said as safe in monsoons because there are landslides that happens. Rivers mostly remain in spate. Bir Billing is also nice but mainly famous for Paragliding rather anything else. Kandaghat never interested me.
Hi Dheeraj
Loved the blog. We want to visit in-and-around manali places in Aug’13. We are 2 couples. We are leaving from gurgaon and reaching chandigarh at 4:00PM. Could you tell me if we should go to manali from here or to tirthan. Is there any other place where we can reach earlier so that it is not late in night.
Could you also help me prepare an itinerary for 6 days.
Thanks a ton.
Hi Priyanka,
I will not suggest that you travel to Tirthan in monsoons. River is quite close there and will be in spate in rains. If you are reaching Chandigarh at 4 PM, better take an overnight volvo to Manali and reach there. How about getting over to Lahaul and enjoy that place and come back? We can then workout on the itinerary. Be aware that it is monsoons and there will surely be some or the other hassles during this time of the year.
Regards
Dheeraj
Thanks for prompt reply Dheeraj and thanks for informing that visiting Tirthan could be dangerous in monsoon. Lahaul too is a good idea. But can’t take an overnight volvo now, have already booked the train tickets. How about spending the evening in Chandigarh itself and leaving for manali the next morning by a cab.
Last question (of this post): I read somewhere that one can take an auto or bus to Solang valley when staying in manali. Are those good options?
Priyanka, yes that shall be good option to have a cab with you. Your cab will need permits which will be given at green barrier at the entrance of Manali. They will charge Rs 300 as Green tax and Rs 100 as permit fees to cross Rohtang Pass towards Lahaul Valley.
Now, since, you have 8 day, I will advice something like below:
Day 1 | Chandigarh – Manali
Day 2 | Manali Local sighseeing
Day 3 | Manali – Rohtang Pass – Keylong – Jispa
Day 4 | Jispa – Deepak Tal – Suraj Tal – Baralacha La – Jispa
Day 5 | Jispa – Manali
Day 6 | Manali – Chandigarh
Regards
Dheeraj
thanks Dheeraj and sorry for too many questions.
we are finally thinking od Dalhousie and Khajiyar. any recommended place to stay and things to do?
shortest route from delhi to dalhousie?
Pratibha I am sorry if I missed earlier, how many days do you have, I can chalk out some itinerary for you.
H Dheeraj,
yes, I have 3 days, aug 9th, 10th, 11th.
Pratibha, 3 days will be tad less but still:
Day 1: Delhi – Ambala – Banur – Kharad – Roopnagar – Hoshiyarpur – Dasuya – Mukerian – Pathankot – Chakki – Dhar – Tunnahati – Banikhet – Dalhousie
Day 2: Dalhousie – Gete – Jot – Gete – Khajjiar
Day 3: Khajjiyar – – Dalhousie – Delhi
Hi Dheeraj,
I am unable to locate “Gete”, what is this place? is it on the drive to khajiyar from dalhousie?
also, any recommended hotels to saty in dalhousie and khajiyar?
Gete is a point where one can go ahead towards Chamba from Khajjiar and the other road leads to Jot from Gete. You can go with HPTDC properties else Hotel Mini Swiss is also nice bet to go with.
Hi Dheeraj…going through d comments I feel u hv great knowledge about destinations n all…plz help us in framing a 8 days trip to himachal, we r grp of 7 members(bachelors),planning for starting winter this yr. There are some queries : 1- Which month will be suitable to visit ?
2- We have plan to visit maximum place, with a hope of viewing snowfall & paragliding .
3- There is a option for us hiring a travellor/SUV from Shimla, & starting our journey.
Hi, Can u provide me contact details of a few hotels in Barot?
I am planning a trip.
Sahil, I do not have any contacts for hotels though I do not think there will be any need to book any hotel at this time of the year
Hmm.. also will be safe to go there this month?
Sahil, do check the weather conditions / forecasts before leaving and it shall be fine. We mere mortal souls cannot predict weather but based on forecasts definitely can mitigate any kind of risk we see. Even if someone says that these predictions are not that accurate but having said that postponing the trip based on that will not do nay harm as compared to a chance of proving them correct & getting yourself stuck.
OK.. Thank you dude ..!!
hello Mr. Sharma can u please help me with the distance from noida to all of these places which u have mentioned in ur blog…
Sohani, they all are approximately 450 KMs to 525 KMs range at maximum.
Sahil dear u can contact Ganesh 09459142707 if the no. is still working. U can get nice rooms adjacent to Dam. More no.s 09418763841,09738550312-River View Home Stay,09459142707- Ajay Taj River View. We stayed in rooms near to Dam (Contact person Ganesh)during June 2011. Rooms are simple, very clean and the location is wonderful.About River View Home stay I am not very much sure. I just noted down the no.s and Rooms in Taj River View are dirty. Hope this info. can help u out
Thanks a ton sir for posting this… would be helpful for many!! If you stayed, how about posting a review in the community
Hi Dheeraj,
I will be visiting Kalka for business purpose on 6th July. I have two days at hand. What do you suggest will be the best thing to see in 2 days? Something that is safe in the rains but also serene and peaceful.
Regards,
Avinash
Avinash, it is already too late. If not then brother head to Matiana and stay there.
hey hi
i am planning a trip to trithan valley at the end of july,so please let me know if i can visit all these 5 places,namely-daranghati,pabbar valley, chindi, tirthan valley, barot.the trip would be off 3-4 days, and i would be driving a hatchback, swift.please suggest me something serene sublime and scenic.
Amit, with just 3-4 days in hand, you can only do Tirthan Valley. Also, do check with hotels there as in July it may be monsoon and some of them remain close.
Iam from tamil nadu…
i dont know anything about himachal pradesh places of tourist spot.
pl provide a plan for me iam coming with my wife, i need to enjoy.
plan for me 6 days. i will be reaching chandigarh by flight.
i will be thankful to you.
Rajesh, which month are you coming?
Hi Dheeraj ,
I will be reaching Chandigarh on 29 th Oct 2013 & back from Chandigarh on 7th Nov 2013 by 12 flight to mumbai. We r 8 adults & 4 kids. We want to go snow part area pls. sugest area i can visit shimla, kullu, manila, dalhousie & dharmshala
Asif, snow in the month of October might not be possible unless it snows at Rohtang Pass in nearby days. Otherwise, it will be difficult.
Hi Dheeraj,
Thank you for your blog. It has been very helpful to us in planning our trip. It would be useful if you could give us a few more pointers.
We are a group of 7 people and we’ll be leaving Delhi in the morning on 14th July and wish to be back by 20th morning. We were thinking of spending 3 days in Tirthan and 3 in Chindi.
One of us gets very roadsick, so we would like to avoid road travel for more than 3-4 hours at a stretch. Also, we are slightly tight on the budget, since most of us are still studying.
1. Given the constraints, will the places we decided be feasible? Is mid-July a good time to visit them?
2. If not, could you suggest some other places we could visit?
3. Could you tell us where we could find some reasonably priced accommodation (appx 600 per head)?
Thanks,
Aashimi Bhatia
Hi Aashimi,
1. Well, mid-July, it will most likely be rains. You need to take a bit of chance. Also, these are far off places 3-4 Hours, you do not even reach Chandigarh now a days 😉 … The plan is fine to do both for 3, 3 days. may be Chindi will be boring a bit for 3 days. Include, Parashar Lake in that case in between.
2. mid July is almost rains in hills and this time even early it is. If you can take a chance then this Tirthan + Chindi/Karsog will be perfect vacation.
3. Try either go with HPTDC, as they will be running discounts too OR there will be other options too. For Tirthan Valley, go with River Side Resort for economic + good guest house or Sringi Vatika if interested in home stay.
Regards
Dheeraj
Hi Dheeraj,
Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention we’ll be taking a train upto Kalka 🙂 I hope it won’t be over 5 hours for any one journey in that case.
By taking a chance, do you mean that it’s possible the roads will be very bad, making travel impossible? Is there a train that we could instead?
Or do you mean that we won’t be able to enjoy much in case it rains?
Regards,
Aashimi
Aashimi, yes that ways it shall work out and I hope then you following the same plan to be back from Chindi or Karso to Shimla. Still, 5 Hrs might not work for some or the other day but very much practical in that case. Use Chindi/Karsog as stop over point and spend 3 consecutive days in Tirthan. With varied pattern of weather now a days, nothing can be predicted in terms of rains and how bad it can get. No one would have imagined that such a disaster will happen in Uttarakhand and that too in June 🙁 🙁
hi dhiraj
really impressed by ur knowledge . i am travelling to dalhousie in around 20th june. can u help us in working out an itenary for 4 days .we are travelling with two children age 5 n 9.
regards shikha
Shikha, you can go ahead with following plan:
Day 1: Delhi – Ambala – Banur – Kharad – Roopnagar – Hoshiyarpur – Dasuya – Mukerian – Pathankot – Chakki – Dhar – Tunnahati – Banikhet – Dalhousie
Day 2: Dalhousie – Chamera Lake (21 KM) – Chamba (40 KM)
Day 3: Chamba – Gete (17 Km) – Jot (12 KM) – Gete (12 KM) – Khajjiar (7 KM)
Day 4: Khajjiar – Kalatop – Khajjiar
Day 5: Khajjiar – Dalhousie – Delhi
Hi,
please do recommend me a 2 nights 3 days, trip in the Great State of Himachal!. So ill probably leave friday morning frm delhi and leave on Sunday morning ish from Himachal. Driving ofcourse.
Go ahead, and hit roads to Barot.
Hello Mr. Sharma,
Hope all is well..
Request you to guide me, as I am planning a trip with my 09 friends to Himachal Pradesh in the month of Sept/Oct for 05 days from Delhi by road (hiring a Tempo Traveller). Already I had been to Kasauli, Mandi, Kullu, Manali & Manikaran Sahib. This time I am planning for Dalhousie, Chamba, Khajjiar, Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, Jwalaji, Tirthan Valley, Barot, Mandi & Manikaran Sahib. Also, suggest me where I can do camping in above mention locations. Would it be feasible for 05 days trip, how about accommodation & food and also roads wouldn’t be an issue?? Above all, what would be the expenditure for the same!!
Thanks & Regards
Yash, you can only do one part of above mentioned places in 5 days. They are too too many to be covered in 5 days. Just make a trip to Dalhousie Chamba Khajjiar OR Dhamrashala – Mcleod Ganj – Triund OR Tirthan Valley + Kasol
Hello Mr. Sharma,
Thank you for consideration..
No issues with the place, just interested in camping. Though please suggest the place where I can do the same. Again, how about accommodation & food and also roads wouldn’t be an issue?? Above all, what would be the expenditure for the same!!
Thanks & Regards
Hello Dheeraj,
As discussed above, i want some info for Spiti Valley, as now we are planning it by road from chandigarh. we 04 days in our hand, would it be fine to cover the same or should plan some other place. please help us to make the schedule for the same.
It will take couple of days just to reach Spiti Valley and couple of days to return as well. This will exhaust your 4 days. Still game for Spiti Valley?
Hi Dheeraj,
Please suggest- Our family is planning for 5-6 days trip in Himachal. We are a member of 8 people wid 3 kids. As I told you in my earlier comment that we have already been to barot(beautiful place) and we only prefer a peaceful and a calm place where we can relax nd absorb the beauty of nature away from pollution nd commercial world. We generally commute by our own vehicles. But this time we are thinking of hiring a SUV or a tourister. What will be better ??Now,plz suggest a destination which is safe, have appropiate accomodation, food availaibility etc. and what should be the route for the same. By the way, have u heard a place called salasar which is 3 hrs away from Jammu?? Howz d place ? Plz suggest
Sorry Zaheer, no idea about Salasar but in 6-7 days you can go for Kinnaur Valley if you like to explore it.
Hi Dheeraj,
I want to plan a 3 day trip from Delhi. But my only constraint is that I have a 6 month old baby, so cant travel beyond 5-6 hours at max. Can you suggest any hill station/valleys and help me plan my trip? are any of the 5 places you have mentioned above feasible?
Sakshi, 5-6 Hrs is tad very low on front. Best possibility is I think that you can head either to Lansdowne OR Chakrata.
Hi,
what kind of staying option is available in Barot and how much will it cost?
Prasant, I think there is one from HPTDC, though not sure. Otherwise, there will be some basic guest houses and hotels available at Barot.
Hi Dheeraj, great to llook at this site, we were looking for some exotic locations and wow..stuck with this website
we are planning A 3/4 day to himachal away from the city madness and pollution. we are planning atrip to mcleodganj, dalhousie etc. the thing is we want some place away from pollution and a number of crowd. otherwse the purpose of close to nature and away from city rush can’t be solved. we also donot want a hectic trip, as may want to join office the next day..please suggest, also with the travel plan from delhi
Rajeev, go with Tirthan Valley OR Pabbar Valley. In case you can to visit Uttarakhand, fgo with Tungnath – Deoria Tal – Chandrashilla
Hi Dheeraj,
When i opened this link and saw 5 most offbeat locations in HP, BAROT was on my mind and yes it was there in the list. I have been to Barot with mu family for full 5 days. It is an awesume place to chill out and relax. Away from the commercial world. The small DAM (if i may call it ) was very pleasing, the sound of water 24hrs is just spectacular. the whole village is built on the sides of the dam and the valley is so beautiful. Nice place to visit.
Thanks Zaheer, yeah it is one of the favorite places to chill out!!
Thanx for such an exhaustive info. I am planning a bike ride to Sangla Valley.I also want to include some offbeat destinations like Tirthan and Daranghati(10-12 days in Himachal). Please help me with the routes and accomodations esp near Daranghati.
Regards
Hi Jashandeep,
You have 10-12 days for entire trip from Delhi? have you chalked out any plan? Daranghati has only one camps there
Regards
Dheeraj
Hi Dheeraj
Thnx for the reply.
I have 10-12 days for Himachal alone. I have planned this way-
1st night(5th June) @Shimla(enroute Sangla), then 2N@ Sangla, then 2N@ Sahara/Daranghati
then 2-3N @ Tirthan.
As far as accomodation is concerned I am in talks with HPTDC Srikhand Saharan but haven’t got a confirmation. So if there’s another option/camp it’ll be really helpful. For Tirthan, guys @Riverside have a vacancy for my dates.
I am an avid bird watcher and wildlife lover so planning on spending quality time in GHNP Tirthan.
So this way I have some more days free at my hand and can accomodate another destination or two.
Any useful info will be greatly ackowledged.
regards
Hi Jashandeep,
The plan looks pretty much OK to me. Daranghati has only one camps I do not have any contact for it, Sarahan would be hot a bit better drop it and choose either Sangla or Kalpa for a day. Yeah, go with River side resort.
Regards
Dheeraj
Hi Dheeraj,
I really appreciate the way you are guiding the people to make his/her travel memorable. You are a travel guy….
M just planning for 3D/2N stay at any good hill station near to delhi (thinking about Himachal) in June, I have a small baby 3 years old. Suggest me good places where I can spend lots o quality time with my family and nature in peace. Also guide me where to stay at such location.
Anupam, go a visit Chindi + Karsog. Nice, secluded place amidst nature.
Thanks for reply. Kindly also suggest good accommodation options available and I have Matiz car, so should I travelled with my car. Is it good or not?
Anupam, you can give a try to HPTDC properties not sure about lansdown. There is something by the name Fairy
Hi Dheeraj,
Should I dare to go these places with my Matiz car with family????
For hatchback/sedan taking on Manali – Leh Highway and Ladakh, I will say:
You will indeed face few tough challenges on the route. The hatchback/sedan will increase the level of every challenge even further, sedan is the worst candidate. My suggestion will be to go via Srinagar route as it will help you feel comfortable with the driving, provide more acclimatization and then once you have done the local Leh-Ladakh, then come back via Manali side. Secondly, since you are in hatch/sedan, then you need to drive with extra care as well. There will be some sections on the Manali – Leh highway in which you might need to sacrifice some scratches on the underbelly. Just make sure you do not bump the engine sump (know it before where it is placed in your car). You need to protect it all around the trip. Thirdly, whenever in doubt do not rush into the section rather park aside and feel the section with your foot, see how other vehicles are crossing it and make a planned route in your mind to cross that section. At the very least do carry Mseal, quick fix, funnel, jerry cans and towing rope with you all the time.
Also, I will strongly suggest that you go through and read my series on Ladakh Self Drive tips at the links below:

Hi dheeraj….goin thru d comments I feel u hv great knowledge bout destinations n all…plz help me in framing a 3 nights 4 days trip tp himachal….I hv a small baby wd me so plz suggest accordingly….I ws thinking of visiting kasauli n then moving forward to sum odr great destination surrounded by mountains as my husband likes mountain surrounded region…we r travelling on our own car from delhi wd a couple friends…..response awaited
Yashika, in that case since you just have 3 nights out of which you will be staying one at Kasauli. I feel you should move towards Narkanda and spend couple of days around there. May be hike towards Hatu Peak to see sunrise or sunset and relax at Narkanda to be back the last day.
Hi Dheeraj,
Thanks so much for this site. My wife and I would like to travel to be a place like you described however we are wondering how safe are these areas to travel to? Would you recommend some tips to help keep folks safe? We are looking for something like Dalhousie but quieter with great views but an Indian flavor.
Compton, go over to Tirthan, quite safe (though not sure what safety your are referencing), quite, natural as well as close to civilization. Nice place to spend some time and relax.
Thank you so much. Mostly safety as in we can walk around in the evenings alone (till 8pm maybe). Heard too many things about Delhi and Mumbai not being safe, especially for women. Besides Tirthan, any other places that we can live in?
It should be fine but you will not have walk in evening
really liked the idea of visiting these offbeat places. Thanks actually we dont know about such places. please suggest me that can i visit these places in September or october.
Yes, Vaishali, you can visit all these places in September or October
Hello Dheeraj,
We were planning for a 9 days trip around last week of May from Delhi.
Planned route : Delhi – Rishikesh (1 night stay + Rafting) – Rohru – Tirthan (2 or 3 nights stay) – Kasrog – Daranghati – Delhi.
Request your advice/recommendations on :
a) would it be possible to cover these places we plan to visit keeping in mind the time have at hand?
b) Please advice on the hotel/homestay/places of stay at these places (Have vehicle, won’t mind driving a bit) .
c) Road conditions for these route.
d) Any other advice you would have?
Hi Dev,
1. Why don;t you have rafting in Pabbar Valley itself. AFAIK, rafting does happen in Pabbar Valley too or near Kullu, forget the name of the exact place but something starting with “p” it was. This will avoid the detour to Rishikesh and then coming back again, that is almost 2-3 days will be saved.
2. In Pabbar, stay with Gir Ganga, Tirthan River Side Resort or Raju Bharti is the best, Karsog/Chindi go with HPTDC, Daranghati (perhaps give it a miss)
3. Roads to Pabbar Valley are complete mess. Rest all places have decent roads.
Regards
Dheeraj
Thanks Deeraj.
From what I could find, there are rafting around tons river and it opens only around 1st week of June. So, we decided to stick to Rishikesh.
And we would not be going back to Delhi from Rishikesh after rafting, instead would take the route (through Deharadun) to Pabber Valley.
Would you have any recommendation on that route or road condition?
Am hearing contrasting views on the route, some say that road is bad and can’t be done in a day!
Hmm, well last heard the roads in Pabbar Valley are really horrible, I will be crossing the diversion tomorrow and will check with locals and might update here.
i guess the starting point for rafting near kullu is pirdi…
Hi there love your website. I was leaving for Delhi tomorrow and was still little confused as what to do on my trip to himachal but then I stumbled upon this link. Basically i I’m going to himachal 5 day stay then from there Kashmir that’s 10 day stay so total of 15 days including the traveling. I wanna visit quite and peacefull nature places for my photography and composing music. The above places look nice but I really don’t know what routes to take from Delhi. Could you please advice me on that and also if I could have some idea on the accomodation in these areas would also me nice. On my other part of the journey could you please advice me for some places in kashmir. I got a few names from your website but again don’t know the routes and accomodation options. Please advice me on this. Will be waiting for your reply
Abdul which of these places are you interested in and what commute options do you have?
Dheeraj,
Isn’t Chakrata in uttranchal? Anyways how wd barog be as an option?
Yes, but the route to it via Nahan is approachable. And yeah, Barog should also be a good option.
Hi Dheeraj,
I am planning a weekend getaway in the first week of may for my husband’s birthday could you please suggest me a good option for a 2 nights stay. I stay in mohali and would be travelling by car so would prefer something that is not too far yet relaxing and beautiful.
Namrata, you can go with Chindi or Chakrata. Nice and calm places, away from hustle bustle. Not too far either.
Hi Dheeraj Plz provide info. about places to stay in Tirthan Valley in the range of Rs.500-800.Thanx-Yadvinder
Yadvinder, you may opt for River Side Resort whose prices are decent when think of the facilities on offer or if you are really on too much bduget then go with Sringi Vatika.
Deepak,
I saw in your replies that you suggest this route Trithan valley to Kasol. That means via AUT and Bunter. Or is there is a direct route from trithan to kasol.
FYI : I’m traveling on a bike CBR
Rubin, its Dheeraj. Well, AFAIK, the only route connecting Kasol to Tirthan is via Aut and Bhunter only.
Thanks Dheeraj, Sorry to misspell your name. What you think of an idea of bike drive from Ludhiana to Trithan and return through jalori pass- shimla. Will it be too risky. Else i can take out my safari.
Rubin, it is not that risky but ascend and descend from Jalori pass is something YOU MUST do it in first gear only else your brakes may burn out or fail. It is quite quite steep. Rest is fine and you shall not have any issue.
Hi Dheeraj
I am visiting Kalka for a friend’s wedding in the end of April this year. I will have 5-6 days after the wedding in which I plan to explore Himachal along with my friend(s) using a cab/bike. Kindly help me plan my trip utilizing my time in the best possible way. I would like to visit a combination of popular tourist places and off beag locations.
I should also probably tell you that this is the first time we are visiting Himachal Pradesh, so please help us in making this trip memorable.
Regards,
Anuradha.
Hello Anuradha,
Since, you have 5-6 days after marriage from Kalka, I will suggest you go with the following plan:
Day 1 | Kalka to Narkanda, visit Hatu peak in the evening
Day 2 | Narkanda to Sangla Valley
Day 3 | Sangla Valley – Chitkul – Sangla Valley
Day 4 | Sangla Valley – Kalpa or Sangla Valley – Kalpa – Sangla Valley
Day 5 | Kalpa or Sangla Valley to Narkanda/Shimla
Day 6 | Narkanda/Shimla – Kalka
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Thanks for the help…
According to the plan we will have to halt at narkanda, sangla, kalpa and shimla for a night or two each. Could you please suggest some hotels/resorts?
Thanks.
Hi Anuradha,
Yes, you are correct. Regarding hotels, you can stay as:
Sangla Valley: Apple Camping, check my review here https://discoverwithdheeraj.com/apple-orchard-farm-camping-sangla-valley-hotel-review/
Kalpa: Grand Shangrila or Kinner Villa
You can refer my name or blog’s at above hotels, may be they might offer good discounts too.
Shimla: Not sure, I always try to avoid due to rush there
Narkanda: Hotel Hatu or one is at Matiana, forget the name of it.
Regards
Dheeraj
Hi Dheeraj,
Really nice infoblog you have put together. I need your help in planning a trip.
We are a group of 4 friends and we want to plan a 4-5 days trip near delhi. Now I have read your blog and all of the places look very appealing. Thats why I need your help in kill this confusion. Below, I am furnishing some details of what we as a group are looking for. I would appreciate if you can suggest me which of the five places that you have written about in your blog would we be able to enjoy the most.
1) We have a front wheel drive diesel car (Chevrolet-Beat).
2) One of us is a make-shift musician and hence we would like to have nice musical evenings around a fire.
3) We do not have any tents or sleeping bags, so we will depend on the locally available resources for hospitality.
4) All of us enjoy light trekking, especially if the trek includes waterfalls on the way.
5) We have 4-5 days for this trip.
6) We want to make it in April last week.
Hello Abhinav,
Do not hesitate a bit and just head to Tirthan Valley + Shoja – Jalori Pass trip. It will be ideal for you. Get connected with Anirudh (River Side Resort) amazing place to stay at economic prices too. Food itself is good too. Refer my name or blog’s name, you will also get special rates as DoW reader 🙂
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have some queries or doubts.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Thanks a ton for the prompt response. A BIG thumbs up for the blog and info.
Have booked River Side for 4 days. Anirudh was quick to respond. Unfortunately, Raju’s was booked. Nevertheless, I am sure it will be very much fun.
🙂
Great Abhinav, have a fun filled trip. I am sure you will have a rocking time there. Do post your feedback or experience here as well.
Hi dheeraj
I m in shimla presently wid my friends and looking forward to explore some good and adventurous places and see snow fall. We have a sedan with us and planning to go back by 19th march’13..would really appreciate if u could guide us. Thanks
Brother go towards Pabbar Valley or Kinnaur Valley, Sangla. In fact, Narkanda will also be good option with hike towards Hatu Peak
Sadly we have come to Mcleodganj today. Please suggest us with a prompt reply to go to pabbar or sangla valley from here or any other place to explore.
Sahil, Mcleod Ganj is very far away from these places. Shimla was much much closer. Now, you can go ahead that circuit. Dalhousie, Khajjiar and Chamba are not that bar. Go and try thhose places, do visit Kalatop and Jot if going there. Or else go over to Bir – Billing for some para sailing stuff if on going.
And thanx a lot for taking out the time and providing the information.
Hi Dheeraj,
I am planning to visit Himachal for a 8 day tour from DELHI. Its a honeymoon trip we are 2 couples.
Probably planning for SIMLA, Kulu-Manali, Dharmasala, Dal Housie.
This places are jus a choice suggested by various..If you feel any plan better or good rather than my choice. please do share…
Regards,
Sandeep
Kindly advise.
Sandeep, just as I suggested in just a previous reply better keep the traveling to minimum as it will be your honeymoon. You can follow an itinerary similar to below:
If you strictly have 8 days then merge Day 6 and Day 7. I hope this helps.

Thank you Dheeraj for the prompt reply.
Could you also please recommend hotels or lodges that I can stay at these places.also what would the weather be like in May,would I need to carry heavy woolens or will a light jacket or fleece do?
Regards
Carlo
Carlo, weather would be fine. Yes, do carry light woolens at least as sometimes yo might need it while walks in the evening or so. I am not sure about your budgets but you can go with HPTDC properties, in Tirthan try and go with Raju Bharti to get a unique experience, Manali you can go with Johnson’s, McLeod Ganj you can go with Hotel Sahil

Dheeraj Sharma
Thank You Dheeraj.
Dheeraj,is it possible for us to hire bikes and ride up to Tirthan valley,Rohru/Pabbar Valley and spend 2-3 days in each place. My son who his 19 and i both ride bikes. If so where can I hire bikes from in himachal?also would have a contact tel no.for Raju Bharti where I could call and make a booking?

I am not sure if you can get hired bikes anywhere else than Manali or Delhi. For conatct details check the link: Delhi to Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh | Travel Guide
Hello Dhiraj,
thanks once again for your help and prompt replies.
I’m planning on first making it to Tirthan valley on the 7th May and have already made a booking with Reiverside Resorts for 3 nights. After that I’m planning on visiting Rohru in the Pabbar valley,Narkanda,Sarahan and Chindi.Could you please help me out with an itienarary for these places and suggest places that I could stay at and how much time would be ideal to spend in each place. I will solely depend on public transport as i will not have a vehicle.I’ll have to leave Himachal by the 18thMay so i have about 11 days at hand.
thanking you once again
Warm Regards
Carlo
Hello Carlo,
What do you mean by public transport? do you mean hrtc buses? Also, you are going in pretty wide directions with these all places. I will suggest that you do 3 nights at Riverside, then move to Narkanda the next day via Jalori Pass. Then from there make a 3 nights trip to Sangla Valley instead of Pabbar Valley because that will be more scenic and will give you good time. 4th day travel back to same place Narkanda and then move back towards Chandigarh or Delhi via Shimla or Chail.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Hello Dhiraj
when I say public transport I mean the local bus or taxi or hrtc bus since I won’t have my own car. Also could you suggest a couple of more places I could visit in that area as i will have about 10 days.
Carlo, if you are ready to spend three nights at Tirthan Valley and have about 10 days then better go towards Narkanda, via Jalori Pass and then spend rest of the 5 days either in Pabbar Valley OR in Kinnaur Valley.
Hello Dheeraj,
I am basically from Cochin, Kerala.
I will be in Dehradun for work on 24th April and 5 of my friends will be joining me there.
My work will get over around 4pm in Dehradun. We will have an Innova to ourselves.
Our return flight back to Cochin is from Delhi on 28th April at 2pm.
Kindly suggest an offbeat place away from all the crowd and hustle some where we can do trekking, bathing in the river, camping etc
The place we have in mind is Chopta,Tungnath etc.
If there is a better option kindly let me know.
Regards,
Fahad
Chopta, tungnath and Deoria Tal will be the best option I will say here. For more details, check the link here: Tungnath Temple and Chandrashilla, Uttarakhand | Travel Guide
Hi Dheeraj,
We (Office mates, Girls & Boys) are planning to visit any places in Himachal on upcoming weekend (Second Last week of March). Since we have less time, Please suggest us the places where we can enjoy nature, snow and some activities like river rafting tracking. Please suggest places where weather is pleasant.
Thanks!!!!
Anish, if you like to see snow then head to Parashar Lake but then for rafting over just 2 days in hand I will suggest to give it a skip. Otherwise, go towards Rishikesh overnight, do rafting in the first half of day early morning and head towards Chopta. Enjoy snow towards Tunganath trek for a day and then come back.

Hi Kamal,
You have about 9 days for a trip to Himachal, I will suggest following itinerary for it:
I hope this helps.

Hi Dheeraj,
We are planning for a 10 day trip to shimla, manali,Kullu, khajjar during 29/10/13 to 7/11/13
– What all we can see in shimla and manali . Also suggest place around to see
– We would like to explore more snow, can you guide us with the itinerary.
We will reach Chandigarh on 29th October by 12 afternoon and we are returning back on 6th November 2013 at 11 from Chandigarh. So please suggest place from which i should start to see.We r group of 8 adult + 4 kids
Thank you in advacne.
Regards,
Asif Shaikh
Hi Asif,
1. Shimla sightseeing :- Famous Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Jakhu Temple, Lunch at Mall Road, Chini Bunglow, Yak Rides, Himalayan Zoo
2. Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc, Snow Points are at either at Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass and do check out Naggar Castle (stay at Naggar and enjoy the place if possible).
Depending upon the time in hand, around Shimla, you can check Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge, Lakkar Bazaar, Kufri, Chail, Narkanda, Hatu Peak. You can go via Shimla side and come back via Chail side just to experience a different scenery 🙂
3. Start from Shimla side and come back from Khajjiar. Seeing 10 days and 3 circuits (Shimla, Manali, Khajjiar) it might get a bit hectic.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Thanks for your feedback Dheeraj!
After reading so much about Tirthan valley I was wondering if we could do: Chandigarh-Shimla (2N stay at Kufri)- Tirthan valley(4N stay-maybe visit to Manali one day)-Chandigarh. Or do u feel Pabbar valley is better in terms of distnace frm Chandigarh, natural beauty and peace 🙂
In terms of distance and peace, Pabbar Valley will be my bet but Tirthan Valley is not a bad option either.
Hi Dheeraj,
Thanks for providing so much info on off-beat places in Himachal. Iam from Mumbai and planning to visit Himachal with 2 kids (12 & 3 yrs) and elders (65+ yrs in moderate health). I want to spend some good time amidst nature with little bit of adventure for my older kid (camping, rafting etc). Would be good to see and play with snow as well.
1. Travel period:3rd ot 4th week May 2013 for 6-7 days.
2. Want to visit only 2-3 nearby places not too much travel.
3. Preferably ex-Chandigarh (we will take a train/air) as distances from Chandigarh seem lesser to HP destinations. Else pl. advise if ex-Delhi is better. Can’t travel for more than 6-7 hrs at a stretch so ok to halt overnight en-route.
Thanks for your help.
Hello Suprita,
Try and visit Pabbar Valley where you will be able to enjoy off beat feel, rafting as well as Snow (might be) towards Chansal Pass at that time of the year. Plan from Chandigarh and take first night halt at Shimla on the way to Pabbar Valley and Chail on the way back to Chandigarh from Pabbar Valley so that you cover both routes. Spend 2-3 days in Pabbar Valley itself. This will keep you very much within 6-7 Hrs a day 🙂
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Chandigarh will be a better starting point if you want to dec road travel. Instead of staying at main stations like Shimla/Manali, stay at places like Kufri,Chail or shoghi around Shimla. Similllarly u can try Tirthan around Manali.
Hey, Dheeraj i had gone through all the comments and your replies, really its a great job you are doing in consulting.
Please help me out, i am planning a trip for HP from 23rd – 30th March 2013, we are 5-6 friendsand we would like to cover up most of HP if possible. Also we want to cover HP from Motocycles, so can you please suggest some route in which the max area can be covered in that time period. We will be leaving from Delhi on 22nd and reaching Manali on 23rd. So please suggest some good enroute and the nearby places to visit.
It would be a great help if you will provide me some itenary.
Regards,
Arpit NIgam
Thanks Arpit. Brother, you should not be able to cover all the places in Himachal in the given period. I will suggest you pick on some circuit from the following:
1. Delhi – Shimla – Jalori Pass – Tirthan Valley – Manali – Delhi
2. Delhi – Shimla – Nakranda – Sarahan – Kinnaur Valley – Narkanda – Kufri – Chail – Delhi
3. Delhi – Shimla – Naldhera – Chindi – Kasol – Manali – Delhi
4. Delhi – Manali – Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj – Triund Trek – Delhi
5. Delhi – Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj – Dalhousie – Chamba – Khajjiar – Delhi
These circuits would be apt for ide of 8 days and you will enjoy these places very much. We can work on the itinerary once you suggest which option you are interested in 🙂
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Dheeraj, as per your suggestions I found the 4th option very suitable, there is travelling and as well as trekking. now please suggest some planning for covering this route via Bike. As the core of our trip is biking and since the manali leh highway would be closed therefore I had chosen to go for Himachal. So please provide some Itenery for Biking trip on this route and also from where to take the bikes and how much would be the budget.
Regards
Arpit Nigam
Great Arpit, in that case you can follow an itinerary something like below:
Day 1 | Delhi – Dharamshala/McLeod Ganj
Day 2 | Mcload Ganj and around
Day 3 | Mcleod Ganj – Triund Trek – Mcleod Ganj
Day 4 | Mcleod Ganj – Manali
Day 5 | Manali local sightseeing
Day 6 | Manali – Snow Point at Gulaba/Marhi/Rohtang Pass – Adventure sports at Solang Valley – Manali
Day 7 | Manali – Naggar Castle – Manikaran – Kasol
Day 8 | Kasol – Delhi
I hope that helps. Let me know in case you have some more queries.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Dheeraj,..!!! thats an execellent plan 🙂 It seems quite feasible also. Now I have another querry that, what i want is to explore HP via bike and in this planning where we would be taking bike and if this route can be started from Manali and then to Dharamshala. So I would like to have some biking also, so please suggest something on this also.
Regards,
Arpit
Hmmm… Well, you can have bikes rented from Delhi as well, may be Karol Bagh and then execute the trip. I suggested this plan to start from Dharamshala because the trek to Triund would be done with fresh legs rather tired ones.
Dheeraj 🙂 Very Excellent plan, could this trip can be started from Manali? and then to Dharamshala. As I would like to have biking also in this trip. Please suggest something, keeping in mind the biking also.
Regards,
Arpit
Hi Dheeraj,
I see you are helping out a lot of people with their travel and vacation plans. That’s really great.
My query to you is this:
I plan to travel in Himachal Pradesh from March 19 to 24, in a place where I can experience some snow. Was thinking of options like Kufri, Narkhanda or Shelapani. What would you suggest?
Also, are there good Volvo bus services from Delhi-Shimla at that time?
Thanks a ton,
Sai
Hello Sai,
Yes, there are volvo services from HPTDC which can be booked online as well from their official website which runs between Delhi and Shimla. You can go to Narkanda, Shelapani, Pabbar Valley for seeing snow. Hatu peak most likely may have some snow and so will be present on the route to Chansal Pass from Rohru.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Just visited NArkanda, has about 3 ft of snow, hopefully some of it will survive another 15 days.
Hi, I’m planning a trip to Kasol next week on 9th feb for 3 days, can you suggest some nice places aroud Kasol to visit and where can we see the Snow?
Jibran, you can go towards Manali / Kothi / Solang Valley to see and play with snow from Kasol. Otherwise, Kalga, Puga towards Kheer Ganga trek might have some snow. You can also visit Parashar Lake which will be frozen most likely at this time of the year which is near Mandi.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Hii,dheeraj
we are group of 8 9 friends who are planning to visit H.P. this march for around 10 days, this is our 1st time in H.P. and so we want some great experience there, so will u plz help us in planning our trip.
and will it be possible to visit ladakh at this time???
Shashank, it will not be possible to visit Ladakh at this time of the year. But, you can surely plan a trip to Himachal Pradesh. Since, you never have been to Himachal I will suggest that you either plan one of the following:
1. Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj with Manali Circuit OR
2. Shimla – Narkanda – Chail – Kufri with Manali Circuit OR
3. Shimla – Narkanda – Chail – Kufri with Kinnaur Valley which includes Sarahan, Sangla, Chitkul, Kalpa
Let me know about your interest and we can discuss further plans for it.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
hey dheeraj,thanks for replying
we were looking to visit only 3 destination since we want to stay longer in those destination rather than spending time in traveling to various number of places.firstly we have planned for shimla, dharamshala and tirthan valley. But your third option is also sounding nice.other than that, as a point of interest we are looking for one off-beat place to visit which would be less crowded.
That is why precisely I have suggested following options. You can surely include Tirthan Valley with Manali (1st option). Third Option is quite bit off beat as well after Narkanda that is is almost majority of Kinnaur Valley. And it will be a relaxing holiday in that sense. You should not club Shimla side with Dharamshala because that is too far from there. So, if you want to Travel to Dharamshala, then consider Manali and Tirthan.
At the outset let me thank you for helping all of us with information & guidance on various places.
I am from Mumbai & in last of February -13 we are planning 3 days tour to place in Himachal only to enjoy SNOW & SNOW only. 3 days stay will be exclusive of travel time. Please suggest place other than shimla/Manali.
prakash
Try and visit Parashar Lake which is near Mandi along with Chindi for 3 days. You will get the snow at Parashar Lake. Otherwise, visit Shoja with Tirthan Valley may be for 3 days. You will get lots and lots of snow at Jalori pass which is near Shoja and may be at Shoja as well.
All these places are in Himachal Pradesh and are ideal for 3 day tour.

Hi Dheeraj, we are planning to HP from March 23 to March 30.This is my first trip and havent visited HP before. Please suggest a itinerary, I want to go to some offbeat places as well as Kullu-Manali for winter sports. Please advise. Thanks,Ashwini
Hi Ashwini,
You have about 7-8 days and I will suggest you cover Tirthan Valley along with Manali. You can follow an itinerary as below:
Day 0 – Leave from Delhi by overnight Volvo for Manali. Get down at Aut/Bhunter near Kullu next morning (Day 2) where you can get to reach Tirthan Valley (about 40-45 KMs from there)
Day 1 – Tirthan Valley – Relaxing day besides Tirthan River
— Stay at Raju Bharti Guest House (you will need booking well in advance, so finalize it ASAP) other you need to stay at some other property. Raju is a pioneer in that region, so will say do not miss the stay there as it is quite an experience in itself.
Day 2 and Day 3 – Tirthan Valley
— Enjoy the walks in the GHNP. There are two Waterfalls nearby Raju GH in the woods.
Day 4 – Tirthan Valley – Manikaran – Naggar Castle (about 50 KMs)
— Stay at Naggar Castle and enjoy the place. Very romantic with great views and food. Visit Roerich Musueum, Art Gallery and do not miss the hike to ancient Krishna Temple at the top
— It is one of the most romantic places in Himachal
Day 5 – Naggar Castle – Manali (about 30 KMs)
— Manali Local sightseeing including Manu Temple, Hadimba Temple, Local Monastery, Shopping at Mall road etc etc
Day 6 – Manali – Marhi/Gulaba Snow Points towards Rohtang Pass – Solang Valley – Manali
– You can enjoy the first half of the day at snow point MArhi/Gulaba (whichever is accessible) and if interested may also visit Solang Valley snow point for other adventure activities
Day 7 | Manali – Delhi by overnight Volvo
— Relax in Manali by evening and leave from Manali by overnight Volvo.
I hope this helps. Let me know in case you have some queries or doubts.

Hi,I am from Bangalore and we r planning for Himachal tour during this summer and tentative dates are end of April for almost 8-10 days.I would really appreciate if you could suggest some of the unexplored and beautiful places around Shimala rather than standard Kullu-Manali.We are 4 families.
Please suggest us best places.
Hi Arnima,
Well, for 8 – 10 days you can plan to cover Shimla, Narkanda (Hatu Peak), Sarahan, Sangla, Chitkul, Kalpa (Kinnaur Valley). Let me know if you are interested and we can discuss your itinerary.

Hi Dheeraj Ji,
I am very much fascinated towards snowy mountains and playing with snow…but unfortunately havent gt the opportunity to c dem yet.
M planning for a 3N Stay in Himachal and the places i would like to cover r manikaran, tirthan valley, nagaar castle and manali( to see some snow there). Can u suggest me an itinary for the same and also some info on budget hotels there.
my stay ill be fromm 23-26 jan 2013.
Swati, since you are planning for just three days I will advice you to just visit Manali and Naggar Castle.
Day 1 – Reach Manali and do local sightseeing
Day 2 – Manali to snow points of Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba
Day 3 – Manali – Naggar Castle – Manikaran – Kasol – Manali
Day 4 – Return home
I hope that helps. Please let me know incase you need more details or have some queries or doubts.
If interested in more details on Manali including sightseeing places, accommodation options, food joints, etc you can go through the Manali travel guide available at the link here.

Hi Dheeraj,
I am planning a three day Family trip (Adults + Kids) to Tirthan Vally from Ludhiana during New Year (Jan 1 – Jan 3 2013). Had chosen Tirthan because we wanted a visit an unexplored/offbeat/less touristy place. But it seems climate will be very extreme during January.
What would you suggest. Will we be able to explore the nearby places or not?
You have already mentioned that road is open throughout the year. So one need not worry at all about the drive assuming one is going in a self driven car.
Need your Inputs.
Regards
Ashish Sharma
Ashish, yes you can plan for the trip if OK with the cold conditions. Definitely you can visit the near by places and Shoja too for snow. Jalori Pass will have tons of snow at that time if snowfall happens. Just drive with care and first gear only as suggested on the hoarding towards and from Jalori Pass or Shoja.

Dheeraj Sharma
Sorry for reverting late. Well confirmed my booking for Jan 1 – Jan 3 at Riverside Resort, Trithan. Had spoken to Mr. Anirudh with respect to weather and he was of the opinion that although it will be very chilly but will be good enough for family vacation and nearby walks.
Let’s hope we get lucky with some Snow. Thanks for your inputs.
Regards
Ashish Sharma
Great Ashish, all the best for your trip. Try going towards Shoja and you will find good snow up there at Jalori Pass or Shoja itself.

hi Dheeraj
we three couples planing to go Waishnow devi temple in Jan 4-14 of 2013. we r from south India Hyderabad city. i like your post and we r planning to go Daranghati and Barot.
can u suggest me how to plan to go there…either to choose from pathankot or delhi…we want to travel on bikes. will it be ok or we should hire a car…and where to stay there
or any other place which u can suggest us to make our trip adventurous…
Regards
vikas joshi
Hello Vikas,
Daranghati will not be possible in the month of January. While you can go to Barot. I will suggest you to club Barot with Bir-Billing, Dharamshala while coming from Pathankot.
Yes, it should be fine to hire a car there. HPTDC properties are good and can be relied upon at all these places, plus they give you official discounts in winters too.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Good to see great work you did by replying and helping to everyone.
I am planning a 4 day plan in year end with wife. Would you please suggest about Tirthan Velly and stay there in Dec month. Will be route cleared during snowfall time. Is it safe to travel from delhi.
Thanks in Adv.
Hi Pawan,
Well, keep in mind it will be cold up there, so go prepared with heavy woolens. You should use the Volvo HPTDC, I will say to be more comfortable. Depending upon the budget you can choose any of limited stays available in Tirthan Valley. Check the travel guide https://discoverwithdheeraj.com/travel-guide-delhi-to-tirthan-valley-himachal-pradesh/
It will be safe to Travel and mostly the road is kept open all round the year.
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any query or doubt.

Hi Dheeraj
hows you?
I had a fairly nice trip to Pabbar Valley (you can find that on BCM, i guess you are there as well)
Achha now am planning a trip between 22nd-25th december. The closer the better as the last 2 trips got pretty tiring, as driving back 500 kms on the last day and attending office the next morning is a pain …… especially accompanied by a female passenger.
There’s just 1 requirement – SNOW!!
Rohtang would be a little too far (and is the last option)
what else can i do?
Chopta?
Chakrata?
Narkanda (Jalori pass mein snow hogi)?
Kausani?
Pithoragarh (again far)
i know these are much farther than what am planning to travel (300 kms … or 350 …. or a max 400).
Any other suggestions.
Would prefer not to shift base during the stay.
Chopta Final Kiya
fir narkanda – kinnaur kiya (and i thought i wont travel much)
hpdtc guy at kalpa cottage suggested not to visit that place during december end.
ab thinking of narkanda (or sarahan only) on day 1. then maybe daran ghati – hope i10 will have no issues going there.
CHOPTA or NARKANDA for snow? which has better chances?
need to book asap as have a female passenger along, and do not want house-full situations 😛
Hi Saurabh,
In last week of December, Narkanda may or may not have it down in town, depends upon how weather turns up that time. Most likely Hatu Peak might have snow. Chopta did get good snow last week. Will, vote for Chopta – Deoria Tal. Best place to enjoy snow at that time and in your target distance too. Even if Chopta do not have it, hike to Tunganath will be filled with snow for sure :). Stay at Duggalbitta or Ukhimath, check the complete Travel Guide for Tunganath or Deoria Tal in Travel Guide Section.
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any query or doubt.

Hi Dheeraj,
We are planning for a 6 day trip to shimla, manali during christmas and new year time.
– What all we can see in shimla and manali
– I have heard a lot about Rohtang pass in manali, will it be still open in dec
– We would like to explore more snow, can you guide us with the itinerary.
We will reach delhi on 23rd afternoon and planning to reach shimla by evening of 24th and we are returning back on 30th from delhi.
Thank you in advacne.
Regards,
Rahamat.
Hello rahamat,
Please find the answers below:
2. Rohtang Pass will be closed at that time of the year.
3. You will be able to find plenty of now there.
As a caution, you are traveling at the costliest time of the year. Please book in adavnce as mostly these hill stations run full especially on the eve of Xmas and new year.
For 6 day you may try to follow this itinerary for Manali and Shimla
Day 1 | Reach Shimla. Check-in and rest at hotel. In the second half explore local Shimla including Shimla Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Around Shimla, a relaxing day. Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge etc. as you like or may be you can do Shimla – Kufri – Chail – Shimla (Kufri will not be much worth a visit in May) and on return visit Jakhoo temple.
Day 3 | Reach Manali in the morning and take rest up to noon. In the evening you can do Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 4 | Manali – Snow Point at Marhi/Rohtang Pass. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali
Day 5 | Manali – Naggar Castle (stay at Naggar and enjoy the place. Very romantic with great views and food. Visit Roerich Musueum, Art Gallery and do not miss the hike to ancient Krishna Temple at the top)
Day 6 | Naggar Castle – Manali – Delhi. Checkout from Naggar Castle by noon. Since, the volvo to Delhi will be around 5.30 PM types, so either you can spend sometime hanging around Naggar only and after lunch leave for Manali or you have the option to come back to Manali and hang around on Mall road and finally take the return bus. Or, you can also co-ordinate with bus HPTDC guys so that the bus pick you from the nearest pickup point for Naggar on the way to Delhi. Naggar Castle guys will arrange the taxi for the drop there. So, you can go and visit Manaikaran and kasol and come back to Naggar Castle, pick up the luggage and take the overnight volvo.

Thanks a Lot Dheeraj for your valuable advice. I would also like to know the approx temp at this time of the year.
Consider them somewhere about 10 to 15 in day time and towards 1-2 or close to sub-zero at night.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Please add in this list Rajgarh, Habban, nauradhar Haripurdhar and chopal. Excellent unexplored road in Himachal. If someone is keen to track then on this way choordhar is a great option, the highest peak in outer Himalayas (12000F)
Dinesh, thanks for the suggestions. I will try to collect more details regarding these places and will add them here. Churdhar I know and is always quite enticing if one is ready to trek and camp.

Can you tell me what is the possibility of skiing in December first week at Rohtang pass or any other place? But not a place with brown hard snow and plains, small slopes would do, like that at Rohtang pass.
Also, will Himachal be very cold next week in December? I could be ok with 2-3 degrees and above but not arctic cold like Ladakh.
Hi, What do you compare the 5 above with those valleys below:
– Nubra valley (Diskit, Hunder, Panamilk…)
– The valley under Zozila pass
– Lamayuru village
– Sunamarg (close to Srinagar).
Thanks.
Hey HTV8,
Ladakh cannot be compared to any other place in the world. But, having said that, the above places have their own beauty, a romantic beauty of its own where you can spend time in solitude without too much getting lost in the nature (like we do in Ladakh) or with your loved ones. They are equally good, green and lovely!!
But, cannot be compared with Ladakh, anything 🙂

Hi Dheeraj
Planning for 5-6 days getaway in himachal in dec. Please suggest some good locations,
Objective: to avoid crowds,
mid dec: snow will be gud
plenty of scenic beauty
comfortable stay options. (clean bed, toilets, hot water)
liked your article on Off beat places in himachal, something on the same lines
Have been wanting to go to Gushaini, but is it advisable in dec?
Hello Vidhi,
Why not try Pabbar Valley in that case and yeah may be Gushaini too, though both will be cold. Gushaini is my favorite in pleasant weather but so as other destinations too 🙂 … So, expect cold conditions everywhere in Himachal at that time of the year. Anything of the two you can pick up.

Hi Dheeraj, just came across your blog. I’m travelling to HP on vacation for 10-14 days and am an amateur photohgrapher. For the first time, I want to do an unplanned trip to offbeat places, without too much prior bookings etc. I’m coming to Delhi by train from bangalore on 24th morning. After that i would like to visit 2-3 offbeat places for 4 days each. What do you suggest? my holiday will be based on your inputs:-) Cheers and thanks in advance! Vasudha
Hello Vasudha,
Well, I will suggest you to start with Kinnaur Valley via Shimla – Narkanda and then exit towards Tirthan Valley is possible via Jalori Pass – Shoja. The whole route ahead of Narkanda is type of off beat though not in real sense but to great extent. For the first timers, these places are just amazing.
So, you can plan it like:
Delhi – Shimla
Shimla – Narkanda – Sarahan
Sarahan – Sangla
Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla (if Chitkul is open)
Sangla – Kalpa
Kalpa
Kalpa – Narkanda
Narkanda – Jalori Pass – Shoja
Shoja – Tirthan Valley
Tirthan Valley (enjoy there till the time you plan to go back to Delhi)
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you need any further details or have any queries.

Dheeraj Sharma
Hi Dheeraj,
Thanks for the itinerary. I have visited Shimla and Kufri once before and want to avoid all touristy places. I have a few doubts –
1. If we want to avoid Shimla, then can we get a bus to Narkanda directly from Delhi?
2. I would like to spend at least 3 days in a place, so from the places you suggest, I may have to leave out a few. Which ones to leave out?
3. I plan to take bus/any local transport between all the places you’ve suggested in HP. Is that a good idea or should I hire a taxi?
4. I’m planning to just reach and then look for accomodation in each place, including Narkanda. Is that a good idea?
5. How cold does it normally get around Nov-end to Dec first week? Will carry thermals and a thick jacket.
I hope its not a bother to answer all these Qs! Thanks a ton!
Hi Dheeraj,
I am planning a holiday in Jan for 8-9 days. Actually looking for a calm and relaxing holiday…
Himachal Pradesh seems to be an interesting option (never visited north). Can you please suggest some good destinations along with the route. Would really likely to see snow and panoramic views.
Hi Mira,
8-9 days is a good time to spend in Manali and Shimla if you want.
Day 1 | Reach Shimla from Chandigarh. Check-in and rest at hotel. In the second half explore local Shimla including Shimla Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Around Shimla, a relaxing day. Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge etc. as you like or may be you can do Shimla – Kufri – Chail – Shimla (Kufri will not be much worth a visit in May) and on return visit Jakhoo temple in the evening.
Day 3 | Shimla – Narkanda – Hatu Peak – Shimla
Day 4 | Shimla – Manali
Day 5 | Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 6 | Manali – Snow Point at Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali
Day 7 | Manali – Naggar Castle (stay at Naggar and enjoy the place. Very romantic with great views and food. Visit Roerich Musueum, Art Gallery and do not miss the hike to ancient Krishna Temple at the top)
Day 8 | Naggar Castle – Manali – Chandigarh.
** if you have time then try, Manali Sanctuary can also be covered as it is just about 2-3 KMs from Manali town and there is trail which starts from Manali Log Huts or Dhungri temple that leads you into the woods.
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you need any further details or have any queries.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Thanks for the itinerary Dheeraj. Actually I would like to avoid both Shimla and Manali. Famous tourist destinations seem to be more commercialized and are always crowded. I would prefer some quiet and peaceful place that offers more natural beauty. Would love to visit some off-beat places. Please suggest something other than Shimla and Manali.
Thanks in advance……
Hi Mira,
Then you may plan it for Tirthan Valley + Shoja + Kasol/Manikaran. Though I will not say they will be 100% off-beat but yeah, they definitely provide you peace enough and a bit separation from hustle bustle. In peak winters, most of the off-beat locations are either inaccessible or are too cold to venture and enjoy.
If you are OK with cold conditions then in 8 days you can also cover Kinnaur Valley and if you want complete relaxation then may be try Pabbar Valley.
Let me know how you feel for these destinations.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Hello Dheeraj! You helped me a lot with my trip to Ladakh. and now I’m heading to himachal pradesh. I don’t have much idea about HP but i know that I want to visit Kinnaur and spiti and khajjiar. I’m going with my family for only 5-6 days, we will go to himachal from delhi by bus or train, whichever you suggest! and we are thinking about going to shimla first or any other place, whichever you suggest!
so which places would you suggest and will we be able to hire one taxi to see all the places? You play such a huge role in our trip, everyones waiting for your reply!
Thanks in advance!
Hello Siddharth,
All these places are separated too much from each other and in 5-6 days for Himachal you will only be able to enjoy only one of them. Spiti Valley easily takes about 8-9 days easily with family. Also, keep in mind that Kinnaur will really be very cold hence, go prepared with heavy woolens.
I will suggest that you go with Kinnaur Valley.
Day 0 | Delhi – Shimla by overnigh Volvo from Delhi
Day 1 | Around Shimla and take rest
— Famous Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Jakhu Temple, Lunch at Mall Road & Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Shimla – Sarahan (Kinnaur Valley starts here)
Day 3 | Sarahan – Kalpa
— Kalpa, Sunsets and Sunrise
Day 4 | Kalpa – Sangla – Kalpa (Kalpa will offer much better options of stay than Sangla in winters)
— Check out Kamru Fort
Day 5 | Kalpa – Narkanda
— Check out Hatu peak today
Day 6 | Narkanda – Kufri – Chail – Delhi
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any queries or doubts.

November 11, 2012 at 11:44 pm
Umm what about seeing Shimla a bit, then to Kullu and Manali, then a glimpse of Spiti and a 2 day trip to Khajjiar? I insist on seeing so much because I won’t be going there again in the foreseeable future and my parents would love to see a glimpse of Ladakh in Spiti.
Can you help me contract this trip into 5 days only seeing the most beautiful stuff?
Also, will roads to Spiti, Khajjiar and the Rohtang pass be open at the end of November? I want to experience skiing!
Thank you so much in advance!
Regards,
Siddharth
And please give your word on visiting Suraj tal at november end. Is it feasible?
Hi Siddharth,
Brother, that will not be possible at all. It is very difficult to even accommodate Manali and Khajjiar in 5 days forget about Lahaul or Spiti. BTW, Rohtang Pass has closed down officially so leave out Lahaul. Then comes Spiti, only road to Spiti left is via Shimla – Kinnaur Valley which takes atleast 3-4 days to reach Spiti. So, again that is not possible.
Then you are left with Shimla and Manali which can be done in 6 days at a fast tempo though:
Day 1 | Reach Shimla from by overnight volvo from previous night. Check-in and rest at hotel. In the second half explore local Shimla including Shimla Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Around Shimla, a relaxing day. Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge etc. as you like or may be you can visit Kufri/Chail in the first half of the day and all this in the second half of the day.
Day 3 | Shimla – Manali
Day 4 | Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 5 | Manali – Snow Point either at Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali
Day 8 | Manali – Naggar Castle – Manali – Delhi.
— Since, the volvo to Delhi will be around 5.30-6.00 PM types, so either you can make a day trip to Naggar castle and come back by evening after lunch. Or, you can also co-ordinate with bus HPTDC guys so that the bus pick you from the nearest pickup point for Naggar on the way to Delhi.

My family of four would like to do some trekking but high ground will be too cold I think for the really high places. But we don’t have to go high. We would like to spend about a week somewhere where we can see some amazing scenery. We land in Delhi on the 15th but will stay with friends for 3 or 4 days before heading for Himachal we we have set aside at least a week to trek and enjoy some religious and cultural places of interest. We would rather be off the beaten path and seeing some cool stuff. We are strong hikers and not really interested in night life… just nature, culture (simple) and catching up with family. Thanks in advance . i
Hello Linc,
Kinnaur Valley would be the perfect place for it. It will be cold as well as there are some nice places to be there around. You can opt for Sarahan, Kalpa and Sangla. Chitkul might be closed by then due to snowfall but if that is not the case then shall be perfect getaway from Sangla or Kalpa.
OR try to spend the days in Great Himalayan National Park at Tirthan Valley where you can enjoy numerous walks in the National Park. It would not be that cold as Kinnaur so would be perfect for relax too. You can go and spend a day or two at Shoja from there as well.
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you need any further details or have any queries.

Dheeraj Sharma
This is very helpful. I have heard good things about GHNP and am looking for lodging and guides. Can you tell me more about Shoja?
Hello Linc,
The gateway to GHNP is Tirthan Valley/Gushaini so you will have to stay over there and then plan your hikes from there. I am not sure if treks are organized in winters except just day hikes from Tirthan Valley to different parts of the GHNP.
Shoja is just a 3 Hr drive from Tirthan Valley via Bajar and is located just below Jalori Pass. You can find snow around there at that time of the year and is quite a calm and peaceful place.
For accommodation you can check the links here:
1. Delhi to Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh | Travel Guide
2. Raja Guest House, Shoja | Hotel Review
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you need any further details or have any queries.

Hi dheeraj,
We are a group of 12 from Baroda, Gujarat and would like to have trip in mid may 2013 for around 10 days. we would like to visit some undeiscovered place in Himachal as we all are nature lovers. we would also like to spend 2 days in delhi. if you can suggest us the itenary
Hello Shilpa,
You should visit Kinnaur and Spiti Valley for 10 days. If that suits I can suggest an itinerary but if you have just 8 days for it then better go only with Kinnaur Valley at ease.
Regards
Dheeraj Sharma
Hi dheeraj,
Thanks. Kinnuar seems fine with us. Will u please help us with the itenary for 8 days from Baroda
Hi Shilpa,
I guess considering 2 days in Baroda – Delhi travel, I will suggest that you go with Kinnaur Valley as per below plan:
Day 0 | Delhi – Shimla by overnigh Volvo from Delhi
Day 1 | Around Shimla and take rest
– Famous Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Jakhu Temple, Lunch at Mall Road & Back to Hotel By Evening.
Day 2 | Shimla – Sarahan (Kinnaur Valley starts here)
Day 3 | Sarahan – Kalpa
– Kalpa, Sunsets and Sunrise
Day 4 | Kalpa – Sangla – Kalpa (Kalpa will offer much better options of stay than Sangla in winters)
– Check out Kamru Fort
Day 5 | Kalpa – Narkanda
– Check out Hatu peak today
Day 6 | Narkanda – Kufri – Chail – Delhi
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any queries or doubts.

Also let us know from where we can get bikes for 1-2 days in himachal.

Hello Prasanna,
Well, for 8 days you can somehow follow the below itinerary if you like for Himachal Tour:
Day 1 – Reach Manali, take rest for the evening
Day 2 – Manali Local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Mall Road, Local Monastery, Vashisth Hot Water Springs (never found it interesting) etc.
Day 3 – Manali – Snow Point either at Solang Valley or Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass. Enjoy in snow and come back to Manali
Day 4 – Manali – Naggar Castle (stay at Naggar and enjoy the place)
Day 5 | Manali/Naggar Castle – Shimla
Day 6 | Around Shimla, a relaxing day. Shimla Ridge, Mall Road, Lakkar Bazaar, Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Mall Road, Ridge etc. as you like or may be you can visit Kufri in the first half of the day and all this in the second half of the day.
Day 7 | Shimla – Narkanda – Hatu Peak – Narkanda – Shimla (a bit long day) or you can do Shimla – Kufri – Chail(Little les hectic :))
Day 8 | Shimla/Chail – Delhi
I hope that helps. Please let me know incase you need more details or have some queries or doubts.

hi dheeraj,
i really loved th epictures of the places u mentioned above…looking for a nice romantic trip with husband somewhere around march…can you help me out with some nice options with traveling and staying details?
would really appreciate it..
thank u 🙂
ohh btw we are putting up in delhi 🙂
Hello Neetu,
Try out Tirthan Valley with Raju Bharti Guest House, you will surely love the place and it is quite romantic too. Do book Raju Bharti Guest House well in advance because it is one of the most in demand properties to stay in Northern India and mostly remains prebooked well before the season. Season for Tirthan Valley starts with Spring season i.e. March/April. You can make day excursions to Shoja/Jalori PAss for snow or even Kasol/Naggar/Manikaran for different feel.
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any queries or doubts.

Dheeraj Sharma
ok…great information dheeraj ji, will surely contact you if we need anymore information or other help…
thanks a ton 🙂
Hi Dheeraj, can you help me out with the travel since you are well versed with trips to himachal.
I am planning to start from Delhi on 17th Oct early morning by 4am.Plan to reach manali in the afternoon and do some local sight seeing.
On 18th Oct,do a trip to Rohtang pass and see the places on the way n come back to hotel by evening
On 19th do kullu-Naggar-Banjar-Shoja-Tirthan valley. Is it possible to see manikaran on the way to shoja.
On 20th Morning, leave for shimla via chindi – Tattapani.
Let me know your ipinion.
Hello Bonnie,
Looks like, you planning to fit in too many things with less number of days. Better stick to one circuit and do Manali – Snow Point – Naggar – KAsol – Manaikaran only.
On 17th you will not be able to do much as it will already be late evening by that time you reach Manali. Do Manali Local Sightseeing and relax for the day on 18th. On 19th make half day trip to Rohtang Pass and on the way back go directly to Naggar Castle. On 20th explore a bit of Naggar, visit Kasol – Manaikaran and either stay overnight at Kasol and start back to Delhi in evening to reach by morning.
I hope this helps. Please let me know in case you have any queries or doubts.

Hi,
I want to go for vacation with my husband for 3-4 days in the ned of Oct.Please suggest some good places which are peaceful, full of natural beauty, where we can spend quality time with each other. We stay in NCR.
Hello Niki,
Go with Tirthan Valley which is amidst nature all around and see if you can get the bookings for Raju Bharti Guest House which is really a nice place to stay in North India. In Uttarakhand you can try to go for Binsar and Chaukori as well if Tirthan Valley do not suits you.

PS -> Sorry for the delayed reply, I was traveling Zanskar Valley for past 9-10 days and was away from network.
I am staying in Himachal Pradesh and seems to have visited all places. Can you suggest a nice place to visit during week ends ( 2 Days)
Hello Rabia,
If you are interested in adventure sports then may be you can go with Bir – Billing / Parashar Lake / Kalga-Puga ahead of Kasol are some options I can think of. May be you would be knowing more than me being native to Himachal 🙂

Saurabh, go with Gir Ganga Resort at Karapather. The location is awesome and so are the views from that place.

Dheeraj
Great. Thanks for the info, have booked giriganga instead of going for a stay at Rohru.
On my way back, will be going to delhi via chakrata and will be staying at hanol for a night.
I guess…delhi-solan-chail-kufri-theog-kharapathaar route will be better? or do you think otherwise? and how about the road condition between theog and rohru?
how far can i go up there towards chanshal in my i10?
Yups Saurabh, better go via that route conditions are bad because of construction work. Try to go towards Chirgaon and ahead as far as you can go towards Chansal. Slush on the road will depend how far you can go.

Made for a good read … and great to know all these places 🙂
Am planning a trip to Chindi, end of this month. Haven’t booked yet, so can go elsewhere as well. 29thsep-2nd oct (4 days total, to and fro)….along with a friend (girl).
need a place that will offer relaxation, scenic beauty with a few places to visit so that 2-3 days spent there do not start bothering. Good food (chicken and mutton) is also a given 🙂
the destination-the closer the better 🙂
and…how much time will it take to reach Chindi? and how is the road between simla and chindi? how much time can be spent at tattapani?
plz if you could mail me all this at sabikhisaurabh@gmail.com
Hi Saurabh,
Chindi is a very nice place to spend few days. You can club it with Karsog with Kasol and may be Naggar as well. I will suggest you check out this itinerary: Itinerary for Shimla, Karsog and Kullu Valley
I hope this helps. Let me know incase you need more info. or have any queries or doubts.

Thank you so much Dheeraj. Now am a bit confused whether to go to Chindi or the virgin Pabbar valley….am more inclined towards the latter now. since i just have 4 days fixed for to and fro…will be driving down to the destination on day 1. day 2 and day 3 will be to explore nearby places (within 50-60 kms) . and day 4 will be my return journey.
So plz let me know of all possible places in and around PABBAR valley.
I used to be a biker myself, and really appreciate all your trips and info that you are giving out here. Kudos.
Hey Saurabh,
Guess, your other reply is in my pending list but yeah, Pabbar Valley will be more apt choice than Chindi. So, go ahead with that buddy. In Pabbar Valley, you can visit Rohru, Karapather, Chansal, Shelpani, Hatkoti Temple.
Thanks for the warm words buddy!!

Hi Dhheraj,
We are already in shimla Day1,16th August 🙁 and happen to read your above Itinerary now.So now we want to figure out and plan our trip better….I know its late but just in case anything possible. In total now we have 4 days (till 20th night). It will be great if you can suggest/help us in making an itintinary for some unexplored places around shimla (as Shimla is quite commercialized and for not more than 2 days). We can manage another day in shimla (seein naldhera n tattapani may be).WE already seen kullu n Manali. We dont have any personal vehicle so we will be traveling by local.
Thanks

hi
i see u have some very good suggestions here. I would love to explore some options but would like some advice on a trip i am planning for 6-7 days by road from Delhi. i want to explore himachal but dont want more than 2-3 places in 6 days. also good accomodation is a requirement for me(4 star types) since its a big family trip, i need advice.
thanks
Hello Arpita,
Try out Kinnaur Valley and you will not be disappointed. Won’t get 4 star types but very decent enough at Kalpa and luxury Banjara Camps at Sangla. Both are extremely scenic places to be.

Hi..can yo sugest some nice place near shimla…trip is f 4 days in aug…since it is monsoon tym..so v r nt sure abt da above mentioned places..thnku for yr help
Hello Aastha,
Near Shimla, do you wish to travel to hills? or ready to come over to plains? If latter is the case and you haven’t been to Jaipur or Agra + Fatehpur Sikri then visit those places as in four days from Shimla these are possible otherwise, if former is the case and you want to go to hills only then Pabbar Valley – Rohru, Karapather would be a nice vacation for four days ex. Shimla.

Hi,
Landed up on this post now through FB!
So,I have some 3-4 days off in August and I desperately need a break. Need to move out of Delhi. Would you please suggest some decent place to cover in that time, suitable for a single female traveler? Thanks in anticipation!
Hello Naina,
Are you looking forward towards hills? If yes, then I must tell you that all these places are close to river and in August monsoons are in full fury!! not recommended to go over unless you are ready to take up the chance, then best bet would be Pabbar Valley – Rohru/Karapther/Shelapani.
I hope this helps. Let me know incase you need more info. or have any queries or doubts.

Dheeraj Sharma
So, no hills for sure. Please suggest some decent place close by then. Shall be waiting for your reply!
Then, you might be interested in Panchmarhi or Orcha + Khajuraho or Jodhpur + Bikaner or Udaipur or Jaipur + Ajmer. First, two options are really nice if you haven’t been there

Hey, m planning to go to shimla on 4 day trip can u suggest if i can visit any of these five places from there or for that matter any other off beat places near shimla??
Hello Arushi,
In a 4 day trip, it would be difficult to fit in any of the places mentioned above from Shimla. At max best bet will be Chindi, what you can do is like:
Day 1 — Delhi – Shimla
Day 2 – Shimla Sightseeing
Day 3 — Shimla – Naldhera – Tattapani – Chindi (Karsog Valley) (Very relaxed drive with a few hours stopover at Tattapani to enjoy riverside meals and another stopover at golf course of Naldhera)
Day 4 — Chindi (Karsog Valley) – Delhi

Please also tell me, what route should be taken and how is the road, is it reasonably motorable as we will be using SX-4 to drive through.
please tell me I am planning to visit Chindi and Tirthan in June second week. are these two far apart, will it make sense to club these 2 in one visit. suggest please.
Hi Karuna,
I guess it might take about 5.5-6 Hours to reach Tirthan Valley from Chindi. So, it can be managed in one trip easily.

Dheeraj Sharma
Hi! We luv to travel on roads less taken and places less visited. This june we would like to visit Tirthan valley , can u please help us with the route from Chandigarh to Tirthan valleyand information regarding the accomodation to stay.
Hi Vandana,
I have jotted down most of the information about Tirthan Valley at the link here: Delhi to Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh | Travel Guide
You can find how to reach, how to plan and where to stay in Tirthan Valley at this link.
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you have any queries or doubts.

we are planning on visiting Kullu-Manali in November end for 3 days. can you suggest where all we can visit nearby and what all is there to see? currently planning on accommodation at The Himalayan Village near Parvati village. Would really likely to see snow and if possible a snow fall, but I guess that depends on luck.
Regards,
Ann
Hello Ann,
There are quite a lot of places to see around Manali town but I guess you guys are staying at Parvati Valley near Kasol and Manikaran. So, it would be better to make a day trip to Manali and snow point near by and enjoy a relaxing vacation in Paravati Valley only. This is what I can suggest you –
Day 1 – Explore Kasol and Manikaran. Kasol is a great place to spend sometime topped with fell of Israeli culture and cuisines.
Day 2 – Make a visit to Naggar Castle. An awesome, romantic place to be at and have lunch in the balcony of the restaurant which offers great views. You can find more about Naggar Castle at the link here. By evening come back to Kasol and enjoy the evening there.
Day 3 – Start for Manali early in the morning to reach acting snow point may be Marhi/Gulaba on the way to Rohtang Pass. Enjoy sometime up around snow and come back to Manali town and spend the evening there. By night reach back Paravati Valley or plan to stay in Manali only.
Snowfall depends on your luck but preferably you will be able to see some good snow at any of the snow points around Manali as suggested for Day 3. If required, you can swap Day 2 with Day 3 but do not visit snow point on the first day itself.
I hope this helps. If interested, for more information on Manali including accommodation options, food joints, must see places etc you can go through the Manali travel guide available at the link here
Please let me know if you need more details or have any doubts or queries.

Hi Lesten,
You can follow the itinerary like below:
Day 1 | Delhi – Tirthan Valley
Day 2 | Tirthan Valley (Enjoy walks in the wood and spend time around the river at the guest houses)
Day 3 | Tirthan Valley – Kasol – Manikaran – Kasol

Hi
Thanks for this
I am looking at adding one more day- I read about Nikolai Roerich- Himalyan Research Insitute/Serloskar Lake, I have read there is a famous eatery there- can you tell me a little more about this
also I will be grateful if you can suggest some things that I have missed out
Thanks again
Lesten
Hi Lesten,
Serloskar Lake is towards Shoja near Jalori Pass and it will take about 2.5 Hrs to reach Jalori pass from Tirthan and then the short but nice trek/hike to the lake. On one of the days of your stay in Tirthan you can definitely do it. Roerich can be visited when you get to Naggar easily and there is one Krishna temple which offers some nice views at Naggar.
I hope this helps. Please let me know incase you have any queries or doubts.

Dheeraj Sharma
thanks!
appreciate the detailed and prompt replies
cheers!

Well, I agree to some extent about what doodlings said about Sarahan but it "June" is not an ideal time to visit Sarahan. In fact before actual Kinnaur most of the places on Shimla route are hot. Secondly, yes there is only one temple for sightseeing but nothing to take away from the pleasant beauty. Again beauty is a ones own perspective but in anycase Daranghati as can bee seen from the pictures does not have any one reason of disappointment if you are true adventure lover :)…
Doodlings said via Email:
Completely in agreement with you here. To add more, Sarahan is just kept in an itinerary of Kinnaur for a relaxing day between Shimla – Kalpa/Sangla drive. Why Sarahan? Because other options in between like Jeori/Rampur are much hotter so people prefer Sarahan. Also, yes apart from peace it can offer you nothing. The point is making upto Daranghati which in car is quite tough unless you have some good skilled driver. Seeing the roads personally I am scared to drive on such narrow roads … but for bikers it is a great ride, who loves it that ways
So, Sarahan just act as a more or like a pitstop or spending a day in vacation if you really enjoy peace and as you said pin drop silence. This is surely gonna warn and help other planning to go for Sarahan. But, I would stick to that if you really love peace/silence and if you need to break a journey to Kinnaur or further to Spiti for a day, Sarahan is a very very nice option for a stay.
Daranghati sounds interesting, more details please, Rampur waala sarahan ya fir Kullu wala Sarahan u r taking about.
Well, Tarun it is near Rampur. I personally have not been there too as the roads are pretty narrow for the cars and but one of my friend "Vikas Shokeen" have been there. Some of the details he shared with me are given below –
There are only 2 options of accomodation at Daranghati, namely a PWD Guesthouse and a campsite – Hidden Himalayas, bang opposite to the PWD Guesthouse. I guess the Hidden Himalayas cost about 1000 bucks per night. In all, there are 3 routes to reach Daranghati –
1. Rampur-Gaura-Mashnoo-Daranghati
2. Rampur-Jeori-Gharat(4kms before Sarahan-Kinnoo-Mashnoo-Daranghati
3. Narkanda-Sainj-Nogli(6kms before Rampur)-Taklechh-Kareri-Daranghati
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more details 🙂
