Jispa is one of my favorite place to stay if you are either in Lahaul Valley in Himachal Pradesh or going to Leh – Ladakh via Manali – Leh Highway. I will always prefer an overnight stay at Jispa over Keylong on my Manali – Leh Highway journey as it is much more scenic than Keylong and just 20 odd KMs ahead of it. Moreover, Jispa is located right at the banks of river Bhaga. The only problem with Jispa is the lack of varied accommodation options but I guess with the efforts of “Jispa Journeys”, it is changing a bit. Apart from Hotel Ibex and Padma Lodge, there are very few accommodation options available at Jispa and one of them is “Jispa Journeys“ which offers tented accommodation or stay options at Jispa on Manali – Leh Highway.
Currently, these tents offered by Jispa Journeys are proving to be worthy, affordable, comfortable and real value for money option of stay at Jispa on Manali – Leh Highway. I hope it stays the same in years to come 🙂 …

Booking can be done by calling at one of the numbers below –

- +91-1902-254055 (Manali Office)

You can also email them and can visit the website for more details. Their office is in Manali and the fixed phone number is of Manali office. Sherab, the owner, itself is a very nice and lovely guy to talk to.
Price
Price ranges from Rs 400-600 for normal tent and Rs 800-1200 for Swiss tents. The price range, I guess, depends upon the current month of the season (June – Highest, July – High, August – Medium, September – Offseason) and the bargaining power within you which can get the deal :)… The meal is served at the cost of Rs 100 to Rs 150 in buffet system. Sometimes, the price range covers some snacks or some meals or all meals as well. Like, my cousin stayed there last year in August and paid Rs 800 for a Swiss tent including dinner and breakfast.
Location
These tents are located about less than a KM before the Hotel Ibex on the right hand side while going towards Leh from Manali.
Parking
There is ample open space to park your car or bike near the camp or tent site.
Phone Facility
Phone facility is not available and even BSNL mobiles only work depending upon the signal connectivity but BSNL seems best among all. Other mobile carriers like Airtel sometimes work, Vodafone do not work at all. We were carrying all three of them.
ATM
Nearest ATM is in the Keylong town which is approximately 20 odd KMs from the camps.
Petrol Pump
Nearest Petrol Pump is at Tandi, about 28 odd KMs before Jispa towards Manali on Manali – Leh Highway.
Medical Assistance
For any medical assistance you will have to reach the local hospital in Keylong town which is approximately 20 odd KMs from the camps.
Personal Experience
Although, I have personally not stayed at Jispa Journey as we went pass them on our journey to Leh but one of my cousin and few friends does have stayed at Jispa Journeys. Here is what they told me:
There are about 20-21 tents available out of which 14 are Swiss tents with attached toilets and 6-7 are normal tents. The tents are nice and comfortable with metal beds having quilts as required usually 4 quilts are given. The tents are spacious and comfortable too. There is a separate toilet tent with basic bath fittings including flush which is shared by normal tents. The food is served in a huge dining tent. The views from the location is also worth considering.
According to my friends and cousin the overall quality of food served is good too.
Attraction In-Around Hotel
Jispa is generally considered as a night halt or over night stay for the people going to Leh via Manali – Leh Highway. Jispa is situated on the banks of Bhaga river where apart from enjoying the river you have numerous trails in the woods which can be hiked too to explore a bit. I will suggest to keep Jispa as the base over Keylong even if you have come to explore Lahaul Valley.
Conclusion
Overall, Jispa Journeys is totally recommended and much worthy place of stay at Jispa on Manali – Leh Highway than the over priced Hotel Ibex.
A MUST STAY PLACE…

Yes, you can setup your own camps. Please read: Top 10 Tips for Camping in Ladakh & Spiti Valley
Just checking!
Jispa Journeys has moved to Gemur as per their website.
Any other camping stay options by the river?
Did they move?? I heard last year that they now have two campsites both at Gemur and Jispa
I emailed them to confirm, seems Jispa Journeys has moved to Gemur. No camps from Jisp Journeys in Jispa.
I liked the location in Jispa, just by the river! 🙁
That’s very sad to know they shut down the Jispa facility. I will confirm on my end too.
i will be travelling on 9th Aug 2016 with my family via Manali-Jispa-sarchu-leh . I am in a dilemma for the over night stay. Sarchu is at 14070 ft while Jispa at 10500ft. Please suggest the best place of these 2 location for the night stay.
Man , your info is superb…
Hello Dheeraj,
we always get more info when ever we explore your website, you are doing good job, keep it up. We are planning for a road trip from Manali to Leh(16th July to 27th Jul 2014) , below is the itinerary I came across on a website and found quit interesting as it was quit different from other. Can you please suggest me, if this is a good option or not, as travelling to leh in the below itinerary is about 800 KM as compared to normal route 474 KM. Please have look below :-
Day 01- Manali to Jispa(164 KM)
Day 02- Jispa to Sachru(90 KM)
Day 03 – Sarchu to Tso-Kar(130 KM)
Day 04 – Tso-Kar to Tso-Moriri(180 KM)
Day 05 – Tso to Leh via Mahe Bridge(230 KM)
Day 06 – Rest in Leh
Day 07- Leh to Pangong Lake(160 KM)
Day 08 – Pangong to Hunder(150 KM)
Day 09 – Nurba Valley and Ride Back to Leh
Day 10 Leh to Sachru
Day 11 Sachru to Manali
Kindly suggest the above route is a good option for the road trip and what are the impracticality, if any in the above mentioned route, considering the the various conditions, Petrol, accommodations etc.
Please revert,
Regards,
Ankit
Hi Ankit,
You should not do Tso Moriri while going from Manali to Leh because first the taxi from Manali will not be allowed to visit Tso Moriri. Even if you manage Leh taxi or going on your own, then you will not be acclimatized to sleep at such high altitude so early in the trip and may cause some ugly AMS issues for you. Highly not recommended, because any help if required will be very hard to find in case you get hit with AMS.

Dheeraj
Hi. I am planning on travelling solo on my bike to Lahaul valley (in & around Keylong & maybe towards spiti side also)and reaching on Oct 15th. Pls suggest budget accomodation in Keylong/Jispa & Losar, Kaza.
Harpreet, not advisable to go towards Kunzum & Rohtang at this time of the year as they have already started getting snowfall. If you really want to venture then make sure that you check weather updates before doing so. I will suggest that you can stay at Keylong one day to explore areas around and then next night stay at Sissu (Hotel Triveni Guest House, right on road. Cheap and very decent with good food) At keylong, go with Nalwa Guest House again on road itself. In Losar you may try PWD Rest House, Samsong Guest House as cheaper options or Nomads Cottage as a bit priced affair. In Kaza, check with Hotel Snow Lion or Sakya Abode regarding their Homestay. Nice one, only thing that you need to walk about 100 Mtrs for meals in the restaurant.
Worth to stay at this place. The staff is very helpful and courteous. The very scenic place to stay. We stayed here on 12th August and they charged us Rs 1800 for three persons for Swiss Tent for MAP plan. Rate this tented accommodation 4 out of 5.
Thanks for the updated review, I am sure will help other fellow travelers too 🙂
Hi ,
Can you please let meknow that the rent of tents are per person basis or is it the cost of whole tent as mentiones (800-1300).
Ashish, shall be the cost of whole tent.
can we pitch our own tent here in Jispa?
Yes, MN you can do so. Just ask for permissions from the villagers and tip them once you leave.
Thanks Dheeraj.
