The Journey so far…
The night at Chindi wasn’t that cold when compared to Barot May be the rooms were much cozy in the hotel. Our plan was a quick bite at Breakfast and then head to home from Shimla route. We ordered butter toasts which were served quickly along with tea. Tea was really good in fact the best one over the trip both quality as well as quantity wise. After a quick bite we left Chindi at 8.30 AM for sweet home…
Day 4 | Chindi – Tattapni – Naldhera – Mashorba – Shimla – Delhi
The roads were in good conditions towards this side of Chindi and in fact very good conditions mostly till home. The drive through the pine, deodar populated forest was quite refreshing with morning misty views down in the valley. We cruised ourselves to Tattapni where we stopped at a guest house with a restaurant just before the town. It had an open air space to sit in the sun where we stopped by and ordered Tea. We had to take care of the Junior with enough breaks to keep his motion sickness away until we reach Parwanoo After a quick bite of sandwich there as well, we moved ahead. Tattapni itself is nothing special but that nice little stoppage with quietness around just before the town was a special moment of our family trip.
Junior by now had become smart enough to act as if there is a pain in his stomach. He cried artificially and as soon as we stop the car to get him down, he starts to run 😀 ;)… After couple of instances we came to know he is trying to act smart and fool us 😉 … Then we knew nothing is happening to him and he is just wanting to get out. After driving a little further ahead we reached a junction where the left goes towards Luhri – Rampur and right goes towards Shimla. So, you can even come to Chindi from Rampur as well. In fact the road we mistook towards Karsog last day also led to Rampur. So, couple of routes are present to reach Chind. In between, we saw a place with lot of monkeys and Junior was again excited, so we stopped by and Junior offered them food, bananas and a packet of chanas which they gleefully took and ran towards the side of road. Junior was very happy to see them eat and play.
We kept driving on smooth roads to Naldhera where for a moment I though to stop at the Golf Course and get the Junior out for a horse ride. But, the the Junior was sleeping so opted out to continue the drive as we had to reach Delhi in time too. Soon, we reached Mashorba, the point where SH-13 meets NH-22 and I knew that now we will just cruise through to the base of Himalayas We bypassed whole of New Shimla and Shimla by 12 PM and rushed to reach HPTDC’s Apple Cart Inn at Kiarighat for lunch. We reached there at 1 PM, ordered tea, Maggie for Junior, veg. sandwich and veg. pakoras. I shall say all of them including tea tasted pathetic even Junior rejected the Maggie as well 😀 😀 … BUT the only point stopping there was to let the Junior enjoy the swings and slides installed for children there in the garden. Actually, it is a nice place to stay in case you want to avoid Shimla rush but food quality I doubt then. It could be better because Kitchen for outside restaurant is different I believe than the one inside with Bar facility. Anyways Junior enjoyed full complete hour over there sliding and running around and was charged up to beat the last leg of the Himalayas on this tour…
At 2 PM, we started the long drive back and kept driving, passing by Kandaghat – Solan we reached Parwanoo and then exited Himalayas using the Himalayan Expressway. Well, then there was nothing but a plain drive over NH-1. One point of caution to make though is that, once you approach Zirakpur then stay just a lane before the left so that you take the exit over Flyover to Ambala. If you will miss it then you will have to take the road below Flyover which is sometimes very much crowded. Our next stoppage point was Neelkanth at Karnal to have some pre-dinner meals. We wanted to have dinner but then junior saw the battery cars over there and in between he spotted that there was a manual rover too which is his favorite at home :D… He could not resist the temptation and we had to allow him then after good 4 days 😀 … This meant kick out to dinner plan and I got couple of Subs Packed from the Subway Outlet. By force we took him back to car and resumed the drive back home 😀
This section of Karnal still has couple of diversions to make operational on NH1 which resulted in quite a frustrating jam at 3-4 places. At 8 PM we crossed Delhi border and reached home at 9 PM. Finally, Junior missing his grand parents eventually popped out of car to rush to them and run around home. That eventually ended our nice little peaceful family vacation to Barot – Chindi I hope you loved reading through it. I will soon be back with the next Family trip 🙂 🙂 …Feel free to shoot back any queries you have for planning the trip to Barot or Chindi either here at the blog or in the DwD Community…

Hi Dheeraj
I am planning to take a road trip from Delhi to Chindi for with my husband for some peace and pollution-free air at the end of June. Any suggestions for possible halts?
Hi Palak,
Have you been to Barot? If not better go there and enjoy the seclusion with fresh air. Delhi to Barot Village, Himachal – Travel Guide
I have already booked Hotel Mamleshwar, Chindi on a very very short notice though I have no clue about what to expect or what to do there 🙂 I know only as much you have written in the article above and other articles. I must thank you for that. Thank You 🙂
I will be leaving early tomorrow (7 AM) for Chindi from Chandigarh with wify and 2 toddlers. If I am not wrong then I should reach there by 2 or latest by 3 in the afternoon? And we will be taking the road that takes us to Shimla?
We are planning to return on 24th as 25th is Monday (office). So should be stay in Chindi only on 23rd or can we drive out to some other place (and come back to hotel or may be not).
Please Advice.
Prashant, I am sure you will have good time up there. It is nice and very calm place. Also, yes you will take road to Shimla and then ahead of it go over towards Naldhera – Tattapani road that will take you to Chindi. Roads are good so I think you will reach there by 2. Best is to stay at Chindi only and drive over to Karsog but come back by evening.
hi dheeraj.
we traveller are fortunate that at least we have someone to whom we can ask almost anything about the journey else it will be very hard or next to impossible to get information .. deeraj my query is that i am going on trekking in last week of june and will be landed in sangla(HP) in eevning.my train from kalka to delhi is at 10:20 am so MY question is regarding local bus availibility from sangla to chandigarh or kalka so that i can catch my train or in case i miss it. what are other option available apart from hiring taxi…
sushil I doubt that you will get some bus from Sangla in the evening. But you can check the shared taxis if they are running between Sangla and Rampur and then from Rampur you will get something to Shimla. Else you can book a taxi to Rampur and then take a bus to Shimla – Kalka from there.
