This is one of the best places to stay in Ladakh - Nubra Valley. Apart from the location which is in the middle of the Deskit town, this is one good place to stay up there in Nubra Valley

Are you looking out for a detailed review of Hotel Stendel in Nubra Valley, Ladakh? Well, this article is all about everything you wanted to know about it and will help you decide if you should stay at Hotel Sten Del in Nubra Valley or not.
Nubra Valley is one of the hottest tourist spots in Ladakh, and Diskit village is one of the towns in which people generally make the base to explore the rest of the Nubra Valley. The biggest reason of Diskit being so popular is that it offers a varied amount of accommodation options than the rest of the places like Hunder, Panamik, Sumur in Nubra Valley.
When people visit Leh Ladakh and especially any town outside Leh, they are prepared to settle for any basic stay options having basic food to satisfy the hunger. We had the same thoughts when we were moving towards Diskit town in Nubra Valley in the remote Himalayas.
On my trip to Ladakh in 2010, our driver managed to land us at Hotel Sten Del (Sangam Bar and Restaurant) in Diskit town. As we checked the rooms, it was out of our expectations and without wasting much time we booked the rooms.
Let’s check the entire review below for Hotel Sten Del, Diskit, Nubra Valley –
Let's quickly dive into the details:

Prices at Stendel Diskit
We got a room with four beds, i.e. two double beds for Rs 1500 per day a few years back when the hotel was new. As per current, 2019, rates, you will get a double bedroom at around 3500-4000 per day.
Location
The Stendel hotel is near Diskit Hospital. Try to confirm from the locals there regarding the whereabouts once you reach the town market or call at the hotel and ask someone to meet you at either Diskit bus stand or main road going towards Hunder.
Parking
There was a decent parking space available in the Stendel hotel for about 6-7 cars at least.
Phone Facility
Phone facility along with STD is also available at the Stendel Hotel and they let us make calls to our home as mobile connectivity in Ladakh was only working for BSNL only. Moreover, they didn’t even charge for the calls made, perhaps they were not too long :)… or perhaps they were nice.
ATM
There is no ATM in Diskit town and you need to get money from Leh only which does have ATMs.
Petrol Pump
Diskit town does have a Petrol Pump and nowadays the Diskit petrol pump is working and even works in winter. Those traveling directly from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso can rely on this petrol pump.
Medical Assistance
For any medical assistance, you will have to approach the local Diskit town Hospital. You may need it in case you are suffering from AMS issues.
Personal Experience at Hotel Stendel Nubra Valley
The rooms in the hotel were comfortable, nice and cozy and the best thing was at such a desolate location you are getting this kind of experience it is just incredible. It was totally against our expectations once we got out from Leh town. Rooms were spacious enough, with the attached bathroom having a hot water supply. The cleanliness was up to the mark in the rooms as well as the toilets. There was a TV with a DTH connection in the room as well, which you can utilize for entertainment :)…
Quality of food in the restaurant was decent enough to finish the entire food in the plate as it came 🙂 but tea /coffee I would say was just at a satisfactory level, at least for us. Although the lunch dinner was decent and breakfast was just even better I shall say.
An ample garden space was there in the hotel with an open Bar known as Sangam Bar. It was serving local Chhaang beer as well as some other known liquor brands. Generally, the tourist comes to this Hotel to enjoy the booze in the garden and opt to stay in another much cheaper but basic accommodation options available in the Diskit town.
You can get the cigarettes for yourself as well by asking someone in the hotel to get them from the local market in Diskit town. Just pay him the tip or else go for a walk in the town and get it from the local market.
The hospitality we received from the guys was nice, and we enjoyed their company. Everyone had a charming smile on their faces right from the old aged owner to the little children present in the hotel.
The terrace of the Hotel Stendel also offered some really nice views of lovely Diskit town and surrounding sceneries…
Attraction In-Around Hotel Stendel
Diskit town itself is very lovely and beautiful. You will surely enjoy the walk in the streets of Diskit town. In this lovely town, you will find two monasteries (new and old). Of course, the tallest statue of Lord Buddha, next to the new Diskit monastery is the latest charm of the town.
Hunder, 7 KMs ahead of Diskit is surely in the hotlist for the people visiting Nubra Valley. You can enjoy the double-humped camel ride in the sand dunes of Hunder.
Personal Travelogues
Conclusion
In the end, I can say that it was a great experience for us to stay at Hotel Sten Del at Diskit, Nubra Valley We enjoyed a lot over there and of course, the rooms were comfortable and the restaurant served tasty food too.
So, if you are going to stay at Diskit on your next visit to Nubra Valley, Ladakh and not looking for cheap options of stay at Diskit then I feel you should experience a stay at Hotel Sten Del. I am sure you will not be disappointed 🙂

Hi,
I stayed at this hotel last week based on your recommendation, and I must say it was absolutely fantastic.
I have been to Nubra valley before with friends but I had stayed in a standard guest house at that time which was nothing that great.
This time I went with family hence booked this hotel for a better experience and I could not believe the quality of service, food and amenities, given the fact that it is located in such a remote area.
The package with dinner and breakfast was really good. At dinner, they served delicious soup, vegetables, chicken curry, dal and pulao/biryani plus dessert! Apparently all their vegetables and grains has to come all the way from Leh. Yet, they manage to serve amazing dinner on time and the service was too good.
Would recommend this place to anybody who is going to Diskit in the future. Well worth the cost.
Regards,
Rohan
Thank you so much Rohan for the detailed feedback, glad you loved the stay at Sten Del and yeah it is one of the best hotels to stay in Deskit.
Whats the tariffs you paid in 2015? Also p/s tell the cost of food? Thanks—– som
Last I knew they have increased the rates to around 3000
Hi Dheeraj,
We followed your suggestions and had one life time experience at Tirthan last year. It’s a call of ladakh this year and we are a group of minimum 15 ppl. Need your suggestions for an offbeat itinerary for about 7-8 days. We are planning to fly in to leh from Delhi and homestays and tents are our most preferred options. This would be post June only. I read somewhere in your blog about off-season travel around Aug-Sept which is okay with us. But not sure of the weather.
Look forward to your word of recommendations again.
Nupoor, You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh by Air followed by many travelers including me at the link here for 9 days: Leh – Ladakh | Most Common Itinerary by Air.
September will be the best time though if you want less rush though no snow will be there.

Amit, since you looking for travel agents, I will suggest you to catch up with info@offbeatescapes.com … They are niche in Himalayan travel and have quite a decent feedback from all the readers who have taken their services. Guys, name is Gaurav and you can give my reference to him or DoW. He should be able to provide you best offer he can.
Just returned from leh-stayed at stendel- wonderful experience- first place where Indians were treated better than the white skinned
Thanks Shiva, for sharing your feedback. Yes, this one is a nice property yo stay in Nubra Valley. BTW, how much did you pay this time? Can you please provide the current tariff rates?
Regards
Dheeraj
Hi dheeraj, it was 1500/- per night…
Thanks Shivanag. Could you please share your feedback on the Food served at the hotel as well? They are demanding very high rates this season and especially for the Plans including meals. So wanted to check whether its all worth 🙂
Shalu, when I was present there food was really nice and yes Shivnag is better person to tell the updated feedback. I will suggest that you go with Snow Leopard. It is not that worth paying 1000 bucks more for Sten Del. I had food issues there because it was off season and may be their cook has not come yet. What I really didn’t like is the quality v/s price thing nothing else but it seems still better than Sten Del in terms of price as well as location. I found hunder to be much more nice and calmer than Deskit.
I hope this helps. Let me know incase you need more info. or have any queries or doubts.

Dear Dheeraj,
I think you have an excellent website! Your love for travel shows 🙂 Kudos!
I was looking at stay options in Diskit. I’m travelling with my wife. While I note your positive experience in Sten Del, would you recommend the place for families / couples?
Did you see any families / couples staying here?
For e.g. We won’t really be interested in the bar. In fact, it’s more a deterrent!
Warm regards,
Vivek
Hello Vivek,
Well, yes the families were staying there and I think it was OK too for the families as I didn’t see any nuisance being created by the people. But, still if you have any doubt then better stay at Snow Leopard guest house in Hunder. Hunder I found much more peaceful and better than Deskit on my trip to Ladakh this year in April. It was a nice option of stay in Nubra Valley. You can check the list of some nice guest houses in Nubra Valley at the link here: Good Hotels or Accommodation in Nubra Valley – Ladakh
I hope this helps. Let me know incase you need more info. or have any queries or doubts.

Hi Dheeraj,
Just wanted to thank you for your advice regarding Snow Leopard Guest House. We had an excellent time, and loved the place. While I note that not everyone had a good experience with regards to food, we loved all the meals there – with fresh fruits and veggies from their garden.
Warm regards,
Vivek
Thanks Vivek for the update too. YEah, it is a nice property and as with other we too did not like the food much :)… I remember now that a complete review is really pending from my side for Snow Leopard. Will write it soon!!

Hi vivek, It is an extremely safe place. In fact you will not find another safe place in our country:). People are extremely cordial. Bar is away from the hotel and liquor is visible in the hotel restaurant only when some asks for the same.
+1 to this one and thanks for sharing the prices as well.

Dheeraj
